Sounds pretty good. I don't think I've heard too many instances of just a Dookie-modded (or crunch-modded) Marshall/similar amp by itself, it's almost always blended with something else.

Dookie was just Cavallo’s crunch modded JMP. They would do one take with a cleaner middier setting and then another take with more gain and more scoop in the mids. The “Lead” amp didn’t come in till insomniac.

I do have to disagree with op about the low-mid gain tones. I feel that’s where the amp thrives. Keep the mv down around 3-4 and gain around the same. If you push the master too much or the gain too much, it starts to fall apart too much for me.

I guess I meant more outside of Dookie. I think Jerry Finn used Cavallo's amp on "...And Out Come the Wolves", but when he got his own he was blending it with other stuff for later records.

Yea listening back the second amp is more noticeable on Insomniac, although I had thought it was because of the JB.

Did the Jose video happen?
Not yet, it needs a retube but it's on the to-do list.

Fair enough, I just prefer an unmodded 2203 or 1959 for lower gain tones. There's something about the voicing of this mod that makes it a little boring at low gain. With a Strat or Tele it's kinda cool, but with buckers I didn't have much luck. Will experiment some more.

If anyone has had a similar mod done by Martin, do you know what bright cap value he used? I’ll have to check next time the chassis is out but it’s a fairly subtle sounding one on ours.

May explain the lower gain tones being a bit lifeless. Another owner mentioned his gets thin and bright at low gain.

Crunch generally was a 470uf and Dookie was 220. I prefer the 470 as it sounds a bit more aggressive compared to the 220.

OK thanks - yeah very low value. 470-1000pF usually works better to my ear, I'll have to check what's in ours.

My comment was actually a compliment, if you take the latter mention of dookie at face value. I was making nuanced, multi-layered jokes as usual.
hence the smiley face at the end of my comment :D
