Does Doug Aldrich usually use just little overdrive from the amp itself and then use some överdriver or distortion pedal to get his tone?
What is done to his amps. More gain? Added tubes for more gain? Effects loop?

This is his sig pedal, don't know if he still uses it ?

Does Doug use a Killer Kali or a mod of Dan's doing?

Last time he was on TMS, just great accurate picking. He could use a Valvestate and tear it up...

Not yet... ;)

Still using his Suhr/Golub modded Marshalls and boosting them with an OD. Agree totally that Doug could rip it up on just about any amp and sound good though!!

Is he still using the Furman PQ3, to blast the input of his amps?

That rocket fuel apparently replaced the Furmans. It got him close enough. To answer the original question, he seems to use hot pickups into a gained out extra stage Marshall + a good amount of gain. He isn't using just a bit of a boost, he's using a ton of gain. Great player and great chops but his style def. does lean on a good amount of gain. You'll never see him fighting an amp like Lynch sometimes does at lower gain settings.

When it comes to DA, you are the man who knows what's up.

When it comes to Sykes, DA and Norum.. I'm just a total fanboy haha :D

Hard to think of better players to be a fan of than those guys. All some of my absolute favorites.

I`m a Norum fan boy too. What vibrato that cat has. Here`s a question for you, what are the pups in his main axe these days..he seems to have diff varieties of PAFs, are the sheeptones his main pups? I know there was a custom 5 and 36th anni in there somewhere as well.

I had the chance to talk to DA during a recent guitar purchase. He bought my '58 Blacktop and played it on TMS the same day it arrived. Anyway, I asked him about his rig and he said he hasn't changed in years. He still uses his Suhr modded JMP's and the rocket fuel. He sent me a rocket fuel as well(because he's extremely cool!!!) It's an awesome OD/boost. I'm a fanboy. :emofag: :grim:

Doug made the marshall JMD:1 modelling amp sound so good that i bought one....then got rid of it when i realized that it sounded nothing like him playing it.

lol ..I can definitely see that though.

I see those rocket fuel pedals pop up for sale now and again.. just can never bring myself to spend 180$-260$ for an OD.

Oh he still uses the DA Rocket Fuel pedal live and in the studio. I just meant that the PQ-3 is back in the live rig again, aswell as the RF.
The RF wasn't designed to replace the PQ-3.. It just happens that he started using the RF more that's all. They did another proto called the Modifier which was supposed to be a PQ-3 style pedal, but i think that got canned and the RF came out instead.

Man.. not an easy one to answer.. Norum is a major gear tweaker and is constantly changing out his pickups/tubes/speakers etc. He even swaps in pickups randomly while he's on tour, there was even a video on YT where he's swapping tone caps in his LP in his dressing room by himself before sound check at a show. He's probably more obsessed with this stuff than anyone here on this forum haha :)
