Has the relic thing jumped the shark? I totally get the subjectivity of it all and it being a matter of taste but I'm seeing a lot of relic finishes lately that could be achieved with 1 minute of RO sanding, 1 minute belting it with a chain and then dragging the guitar behind your vehicle on the way to work. Want it a little less reliced? Drag it behind your bicycle for a bit.

Please count this post towards my MCC (Monthly Commentary Contribution®) to the forum.

That is a great idea. Just brainstorming here but.....
have the neighbor kids ride on it like a sled as you pull it? Double the relic in half the time.
Of course need a weight and height chart prior to riding. Gotta keep it real.

I like your kill 2 birds with 1 stone approach.

Never really got the relic'ed thing. Certainly wouldn't pay extra for it. I'd rather wear it in myself. And tho I KINDA like the look of a worn in maple fretboard, they do kinda look...yucky. Gunky. Nasty.

What can I say, I dig 'em. I think MJT did a really great job on my Joe Holmes inspired Strat. Now I want a 3 single relic - A Wildwood 10 fiesta red relic to be exact! The only thing I don't dig with good relics is when they gouge out the maple boards. Whose fingers would actually do that??

Dolly Parton

I don't really care for relic jobs. Seems that less than 10% of the ones I've seen actually look natural. Kind of like the natural kind of wear on a pair of jeans as opposed to store bought worn out jeans.

When it's done right and not overdone, it can look pretty sweet in conjunction with a worn-in feel. But, for the most part, I've never been a huge fan.

I really like the look of a worn guitar but would never pay extra for one. I could beat the hell out of it myself or let the kids do it.

Maybe too Red?

There's a trick to it. If you're gonna drag it to work, you have to hit the Freeway traffic at the right time for different levels of relic'ing ;)

I'd avoid the freeway altogether. Only street worn relics look legit.

And the next level is Side road dragged relics. They are the boutique.

In all kidding I do like them.
I could only imagine how much actually playing could get a guitar so reliced up. I play the crap out of mine and am not real 'easy' on it. Beat it like a step child.
And Only a couple dings. Gloss is still shiny as ever. :D

I have cut back on the drinking. :aww:
Maybe with enough caffine and more caffine....I can just snap and toss it against a wall or just throw it to the floor between songs. Wipe my muddy feet on it.

I like my guitars shiny and showroom condition. People get all excited and want extra money for a guitar that has been signed by some asshat that is famous. Me, I've got a rag in one hand and windex in the other wanting to take care of that smudge.

Unless you're falling down on top of it Chris Farley style you'll just never have an effectively reliced guitar.

I think I can do that. Just gonna have some fries in between songs. Keep my girlish figure.
Diet starts Monday.
