Which gauge will be "the best" ?
Of course most part of it is personal preference but i don't want to damage my neck or something.

Currently i use 10-13-17-30-42-52 for standard E tuning on 25.5 scale and I want the same tension but in Drop C.

What do you think about it ? I check the tension according to this site and the bass side will be ok - or about little bit lighter , but the treble side - about 2 lbs more per each string.

GHS Boomers 12 - 52 (with the wound 3rd)...I've tried them all, this is what I have found works best for drop C.

You're allready using piano wire for standard, you're gonna have to go pretty big for the same tension.

60 for low E, maybe bigger?

I go up to the next size pack in my brand for each 1/2 step i go down.

Agree

Are you sure guys ? I mean CGCFAD tuning.

So these strings will be ok ( Daddario 12-60)

Neck thru/set or bolt on? I'd probably go with the 60's or at least a 12-58 either way.

Set in or neck thru - I don't know.

12's will be ok for solos and bending ?

I remember using 10-52's for drop C back in the 90's and that was on a Les Paul   These days I would try and find an 11 gauge set that gets heavier on the low strings. You should still stay in tune fine but be able to solo too. FWIW I hate wound G strings. You'll lose all your bite on that string. Plus GHS will put together custom packs for you if none of the set ones do the trick. On a Gibson I would shoot for 11-53/54, with a 19 or close, plain G string and for a Strat/Super strat...who fucking cares

I use 12-54 for my V that's in C# standard and it feels great.

Awww , so many mixed opinions ....

Of course I can first buy 11's and try them , but it can be not enough and I will must other pack of heavier strings. And I also strongly hate messing with restringing guitar ... just hate it !

If you use 10-52 for standard as I used to do also, and you want that same tension, I would say 12-60 seems about right for drop tuning to C

I used D'Addarrio 12-60 EXL148's and they had more than enough tension. Fantastic strings.

These string here are pretty good, they specialise in drop tuning guages, been recently fitting the drop C ones because of a customer request and I must say that I was nicely suprised :)

(PS: I'm a mega D'Addario dude myself and dont usually use any other brands)

I use the Boomers always play in Drop C, or C# if I dont have a tuner :).

I dont know shit about tension and this or that but 12's are more than enough....I actually prefer 11's

DYL's are pretty nice too

i am using the ernie ball power slinky 7 string set on my 6 strings. i just drop the .48 out of the pack, which leaves me with a .11,.14,.18,.28,.38,.58 string set. works great for me on a 25.5" scale guitar

I'm tellin' ya...I went through a tone of brands and gauges...GHS Boomers 12-52 with the wound 3rd: Perfect.

I've used 11-54 on a 25.5" scale bolt-on temporarily for some fun Drop C stuff

If I were to do it again, I'd definitely get a slightly higher gauge, they were still a little too slinky for my tastes

I use the dunlop heavy core and like em alot. Pretty cheap and sound great. I go throw strings pretty quick and use to always buy they higher end strings but they seam to wear out just as fast to me.
