Not my vid, but I think it is awesome

DSL has the edge for me, but the 5153 has the lower mids fullness, which is nice too.

The DSL definitely fits the oldschool playing more, but I'm sure the 5153 would get the edge in other settings.

both sound pretty good, leads sound better on the Marshall though.

Its almost like the presence was turned back a tad on the EVH for the leads? Slightly 'duller'?
Both sounded pretty good though. But I bet with some tweaking..... ;)

I liked the EVH by a mile. The Marshall had that nasally thing going on in the upper mids that I don't like about Marshalls.

I listened to it blind. I thought the first one was a Marshall, and I was like, "Yeah, this thing rips!" I then realized it was the EVH.

I was surprised the player got that sound from a stock, unboosted DSL.

The EVH sounded duller and more congested to me as well. I will say at the very start I really liked the EVH, but after that I preferred the Marshall.

I own both. After you tweak this and that, use your favorite boosts....

I think it is the convenience of three channels and the ultra brown gain of ch3 on the 5153 vs the classic Marshall crunch. My DSL has winged C EL34's and a few of the NOS tubes Dave was selling in it to make it less 'even' of a comparison right now. The DSL can do very good cleans now. The Ei in V1 and long plate in V2 work together well. The EVH, everyone knows the high gain but you can get pretty decent cleans from the Fender amp.

Gotta withhold judgement until after the weekend and rolling some tubes thru the 5153. I anticipate it can only get better. It could give up a tiny bit of gain for better clarity and be just about perfect. Will get the tube map and see which ones effect which channels.

For the money, they are both cheap. $600 for the used DSL, $1000 for the used 5153. The DSL with the new glass and the OCD out front has some new mojo. Plug in a LP and have some fun. And what amazes me is it is so cheap. And so many cork sniffers slag it....equally amazing.

Great comparison vid.

Great video! I like they way they switched back and forth. Personally I dug the 53 more, especially for rhythm.

Marshall sounds better to me......mids are a good thing.

I like the marshall better here, but that EVH doesn't sound like how I would dial it in, so just one mans shape doesn't mean the EVH has to sound like that.

BINGO!!!

Marshall sounds great. 5153 sounds synthetic and hazey. 5153 is way overhyped.

Marshall sounds better IMO and I by passed up the DSL and TSLs back in the late 90's during my tone quest.

Yeah sounds like he had the presence knob up to high. I have this amp and can get a smooth sound and not fizzy like here. Marshall was killing for the lead sound.
