It’s just early March and Mom Nature (she’s a bitch…) has both middle fingers pointed skyward. Level 2-4 on the severe scale, depending where you are in the state. Our biggest problem is that storms build in the mid-section and then pummel us as rain-wrapped, nocturnal demons. I never sleep well, but it will be one eye open tonight…

We had an F-4 a year ago.
Don't recommend that.
with an F-4 if you're hit you not gonna make it unless the Lord intervenes

What is an F4 tornado?

F4. Devastating tornado. 207-260 mph. Well-constructed houses leveled; structures with weak foundations blown off some distance; cars thrown and large missiles generated

We’re a little south of the L4 area (squarely L2+). Rotating storms are on the menu, but “significant” hail (2”+), microbursts and 70+ MPH straight line winds are more likely here. Should be an interesting night.

P.S. it gets cold after the front moves through, then goes north of 70 degrees on Saturday before more severe storms. Welcome to the Midwest…

An EF1 rearranged my front yard in 2015 while I stood stupidly gawking out the front window. And I'm talking trees, not lawn gnomes.

My advice is don't do that if a twister comes a knockin'. It was a hell of a sight though, in an I-almost-died-just-then kind of way.

Standing outside watching the “twisters” is what we do. But I’ll damn sure not be the dude in the wife-beater on the 6:00 news standing in front of a Camaro on blocks describing how the twister sounded like a train 😉

I've had my share of that shit too both in South Dakota and Missouri. I'm happy to be in a brick home with solid basement but I'm also fascinated by weather and have a tendency to stand at the doorway when shit is getting real.

I’ve been close to several tornadoes through the years - some by chance, some by choice. I find weather fascinating…

That tornado was extremely racist.

watching the weather channel now Indy - best of luck my friend

Watching it approach now, center is about 20 miles away and heading in my direction. Tornado touched down about 50 miles away then lifted but weatherman says rotation continues. If it moves NE it should miss us, straight east, we'll see it. No sleep meds yet...gotta stay awake for the duration.

Didn't realize you were up that way too. I edited my prior post. Hoping for the best. I know how nerve-racking it can be. We may get a dose of this in the middle of the night - which is a whole other level of suck.

That seems to be when most of the tragedies occur, at night when everyone is sleeping. I won't sleep until it's gone.

I pray the Lord protects you guys!☦️ I went through many hurricanes in FL but tbh none of those compared to some scary nights of thunderstorms out here in the TX hills where I laid awake all night in prayer hoping the Lord would spare us and our home! Stay safe!!

This sucker is moving slooow, it has moved maybe 100 miles in the last 1 3/4 hours and still hasn't passed my area yet.
VonBonfire, I wonder how similar the "watches" are for tornadoes and hurricanes: seeing on the maps as it approaches familiar areas and heading you way, hoping its route changes.

Do you have storms now/soon bro?

Usually in the spring starting in March we can get some intense storms. T-storms predicted tonight but nothing serious that I'm aware of.

Last year in May up in Austin they had a microburst that busted up a whole strip of buildings for like ten miles, downward gusts to 100mph. I had some hail a couple years ago the size of my fist, it sounded like the entire sky was falling down and my steel roof now looks kind of like a golf ball. There can be a lot of flash flooding in the area but I'm elevated so it's the extreme lightning plus wind that brings me closer to the Lord the most!!!
