People are instructed to pray for all of their leaders, not just Donald Trump. Sometimes I think if we did that before we opened our mouth to criticize others we would have a different society. Orthodox liturgy includes prayers for authorities and armed forces:

--For this land, its authorities and armed forces, let us pray to the Lord.

Choir: Lord, have mercy.

--For the God preserved Russian Land and its Orthodox people both in the homeland and in the diaspora, and for their salvation, let us pray to the Lord.

Choir: Lord, have mercy.

--That He may deliver His people from enemies both visible and invisible, and confirm in us oneness of mind, brotherly love and piety, let us pray to the Lord.

Choir: Lord, have mercy.

--For this city (or this town, or this holy monastery), for every city and country, and the faithful that dwell therein, let us pray to the Lord.

Choir: Lord, have mercy.

--For seasonable weather, abundance of the fruits of the earth, and peaceful times, let us pray to the Lord.

I dunno man. Not to negate the any teachings you prescribe to, but I can’t imagine Jesus is up there thrilled by being flooded with prayers for a schmuck like Trump

You're missing the teaching though. We set aside our judgments of others in prayer. Actually we are just supposed to set aside our judgments of others, period. Worry about what's on your own plate is the saying.. Perhaps it is the most lecherous and vile people that repulse us most that we should pray more often for. If every man is created in God's image, and we believe that, then it should be reflected in our prayers if not our outward life.

The Ottomans raided European coasts for slaves, and drew slaves from much of their empire, especially from non-Muslim aka dhimmis - especially Slavic people - which is where our word for slave is derived...the Slavs were the source slave peoples for the Ottomans. The Ottomans raided the balkans for young Christian boys who were taken from their homes, and trained in Ottoman camps to be the shock troops - the first to go into battle taking most of the casualties - janissaries - this did two things for the Ottomans 1) took future Christian men away from their people to reduce the labor and threats of uprisings; 2) minimized Ottoman muslim casualties in battle.

The Ottoman Empire prior to WW1 was known as "the sick man of Europe" and many powers, not just European / American, but across the middle east were taking pieces of the empire.
