Has anybody here built a dummy load for slaving amp heads out, I want to try slaving my mark v out to my xxx but dont want to spend $350 for a hot plate or other attenuator. So has anyone done it?

If you decide to I have a few Hotplates I'd let go for a reasonable $.

slaving an amplifier for a line out signal is a little more involved than you think it is.

the RLC circuit has to be designed a way that doesnt make your amplifier sound like......well..........shit.

aspen pittman of groove tubes filed a patent for a dummy load. if its not for commerical use - im not saying copy it....but the patent office has it, and a diagram as required for filing a patent. but honestly by the time you invested in parts and labor it would just be easier to spend the money on a used hotplate and call it a day.

involved more? how so? dont i just take a cable from the slave out on my mark v to a power amp? i was told i could take it to the fx return on my XXX to use it as a power amp.

are you wanting to build a dummy load to connect your OT, which will allow you to crank your power section?

or are you going to use the slave out of your mesa which is a simple high-wattage resistor that pads the signal level to line level for sending to another amplifier?

you can do either. i just figured you were going to try and build a dummy load - ala aspen pittmans patent.

either will work, but if you are going to try and build a dummy load i would suggest just buying one if you dont already have some of the parts around

i wanted to try to slave it out to my xxx just to see how it would sound.

you can run the slave out of a mesa and run it into the effects return of the XXX if you want just the power side of the XXX - or you can run it into the front of the XXX and mix/match tones this way - but it probably will not sound too good.

you can do either

just make sure that if either amplifier is on and out of standby, that the OT sees a load. if you do not do this, you will fry the secondary of the OT as it will try to match an open load which is not possible.

you can use speakers - but if you do not want sound out of the amplifier - you will need a dummy load. faustin phantom, hotplate, etc there are many options that exist. what i said earlier though about building one, is that its easier to buy one used by the time you invest in parts and such.
