You can have a $600+ mod performed on a $1000 JMP, but if charveldan plays through it, it's still gonna sound like shit.

You know, you are right. It's not good to gang up on people. But on every gear forum Dan comes across with this know it all attitude because he sent an amp to a modder. I think the only forum left that tolerates him is marshallforum, but I think he is wearing out his welcome there as well.

He could have saved some cash and just got a DSL 50. All of them that I have played can totally hang with the modded marshlol crowd.

It's all good man. Dan kinda derailed it with his initial post, and he has since deleted his first 3 posts from this thread. His first post was raving on and on about the duncan custom and how great it was, then included a link to an ebay search for the duncan custom. Uhh....I said I was thinking about putting a hellabucker in the guitar, didnt I? I mean...it already has a duncan custom lol.

In any case, I remember the hellarail I had being fantastic, and I think the Lizard is the best neck pickup I've ever heard. So I will get to refresh my memory on the hellarail some time next week, and I'll have a hellabucker with a ceramic magnet and a lizard for my horizon in about 5-6 weeks.

I specifically asked for a comparison between either a duncan custom and the bg hellabucker or the duncan custom 5 and the bg hellabucker. I didnt ask for anyones experience with a duncan custom. I have that fucking pickup. I know what it does and what its capable of. Then you posted a link to an ebay search for the duncan custom. Makes no sense man. Just curious what your Custom isn't doing that you're looking for from the Hella, more output, more grind, just a different flavor? You had a Hella in a mahogany fixed bridge while the Horizon is an alder neck-through FR setup, kinda curious how the same pup will sound in 2 different guitars. I find the Horizon has some of the best cleans from the split neck SD Jazz that I've heard from any of my shredder type axes, I'm thinking maybe getting a pup that'll bring out more of the highs, not sure if that's a good way to go about looking at it.

I guess while we're talking about BGs, what's the scoop on them and their pups? Lots of small boutique winders out there, wondering why them over some the others. Maybe I'll ask in a separate thread if this one can't get back on track.

Not really looking for anything in particular. Mainly just looking for a different flavor. Im curious to see how it sounds in a different guitar, too.

BG is significantly less expensive than guys like BKP and MCP. While I really liked the MCP hellbaby, those arent made anymore. I didnt like the BKP painkillers I had. Besides that, MCP and BKP are more than I want to spend. A pair of BGs is about half what a pair of those guys charge. I have been noticing some other companies, though, like Tesla. I dunno. BG users seem to really LOVE his pickups and tend to equip all of their guitars with them. On top of that, all of my dealings with Bryan have been nothing short of excellent.

Cool, looking forward to your review. Yeah BKPs are more than I'd want to spend too just to try something I'm not sure about. I've read some winders including BKP scatter winds (some of) their pups and offset the windings slightly in each coil, supposed to make for a richer sound I believe. Does BG do that by default or is it something you'd have to ask for? I almost don't want to get into replacing pups because it's just such a rabbit hole of potential guesswork, so many flavors to choose from.

I just wanted to semi-defend Dan. The Subject kind of looks like you are looking for experience with all 3. I know people are supposed to read the OP thoroughly but sometimes in the grand mass of threads/forums people jump to conclusions on what the TS is looking for and you get some random posts. I think he was genuinely trying to help - and not be a dickhead. Maybe a thread titled 'Anyone have experience with a Hellabucker' would have worked better.
