Curious as to what level people give up school to chase their dreams. Or do they?

I hear they pull tail...

Judging by some of the remarks posted here in OTC? I'd guess a lot are third grade drop outs at best. Take that how you will OP. As for yearly string breakage, I don't know how any competent guitarist could break a string more than once every few years and it's most likely due to manufacturing defects. ?

I broke a string in 1992

I voted for Butter. I feel like they can really make the change that this country needs. I do tend to break acoustic strings more than once a year, though. Which is another reason I voted for butter.

I have 2 audio-engineering diplomas, which is probably why I suck at geetar.

I obviously studied the wrong thing. :dunno:

I haven't voted yet sis' 'cause I wasn't sure of which category I "belong" in.

If you tell me, I'll vote accordingly.

I would probably put that under trade if I were filling out a government issued form. Doesn't really matter where anyone is on the list, anyway. Education doesn't mean aptitude or wisdom according to the 100% undeniable and peer reviewed results, so far. I mainly voted for butter because it came after everything else on the list.

Of course sis'; I just wanted to show support by particimapating.

Yeah, I think you're right - "Trade/Associates" it is then.

I quit caring about school in the 3rd grade when I first received "homework". Sorry, this school stuff doesn't get to impinge on my "me" time.

I quit HS, tech school, and college just to say I quit them all. I do have a diploma but that's a long story not worth getting into. I don't have a degree, that would be revolting. I bailed out my hometown after ditching high school so I didn't wind up in jail for drinking, drugs, fighting or murder. It was the smartest thing I ever did cause I'll tell you what I never did use that diploma for jack shit except to work towards other degrees that are also worth jack shit.

You won't get shit from me.
I know plenty of idiots with degrees, advanced or otherwise.
Just look at Congress or the Senate, for example.

I have an AA degree and dropped out 6 credits short of a BA when I met my first wife. My current wife has 3 real degrees and is a CPA, financial advisor and auditor. I work in a field completely unrelated to my degree and in a job where only a "Good Enough Diploma" or better is necessary to get hired. I make better money than a lot of people with bachelor degrees, including my wife. In fact given our very modest lifestyle ( the house I live in, we paid 56k for and current replacement value is about 160k) my wife doesn't even have a real job anymore. She handles a few clients year round and books herself out for a few months at tax time.

I wouldn't call myself a guitarist. My father was a bassist and he put a bass in my hands when I was 8 years old and thought Gene Simmons was the coolest mother fucker in the world. When I was about 10 or 11 I started playing guitar because it's not that fun playing Black Sabbath songs over and over sans accompaniment. By the time I was 15 I was making about a hundred bucks a weekend playing bars in a 3 piece band I started called Dead Friend's Hat. We played covers with occasional originals thrown in. Sabbath, Hagar, Rush, Kiss, Skynerd, Zeppelin, etc. I still always played guitar at home though and I played rythym guitar in a few bands with the lead guitarist from my main band. So I am semi-competent on guitar. I don't recall the last guitar string I broke, but I guarantee it was when I was young, had no tuner and hadn't yet developed "Relative pitch" and was attempting to tune a guitar by ear and snapped the high E string. I've never broken a bass string.

When I gigged in a band for 30 years I would break 9 gauge strings all the time. I had to put a fresh set on before each gig or I’d break a string at the gig. I had quite a few guitars and they were all setup fine. I tried everything to avoid this and I just came to the conclusion that I was a string breaker. I do a lot of bends.
I play solo acoustic now with 10 gauge strings on my Fender Acoustasonics. Don’t break as often but I still break a fair amount. A set May last 20 hours roughly.

I have a bachelors of science in plant and soil science, associate of science in arboriculture and a handfuls of trades related licenses and certifications along the way

Not sure when the last time I broke a string was
