Well, I’m three credits shy of a Criminal Justice degree, needed a family court class.
This is back around ‘94.
Took the Sheriff's exam and scored within the top third.
By time I was contacted for an interview I had already accumulated two felonies.
I was doing ok for myself, driving Class B, delivering propane.
Then, while serving a year in jail, they’d send me to “men’s groups” to talk about things.
Family, jobs, what will you do to reinvent yourself once you are released.
They preached going back to school and with my record, a criminal justice degree was pretty useless.
Had no idea what to do but loved music. Got my bus token on release day and decided I’d go back to school again for music. Maybe some recording. Used to have a four track I loved messing with.
Anyways, took some time to get back into school due to my background.
Finished high honors with an AAS in Music Theory and another AAS in Digital Audio Recording.
Don’t use any of it anymore and was a much better player then.
Music theory is like learning a second language. Need to use it to retain it. Not that I have forgotten everything.
Kind of a waste though, I should have went back for some kind of computer or cyber security gig?
And then life gets in the way…
