Hi, I recently noticed that whan I play clean on the Einstein (50W) i hear a very faint noise on top of the most percusive and low notes. The noise isn't present when not playing, it appears and goes away with every note that I pluck - kind of like a noise gate, that opens when playing louder.
I removed everything from the signal path, and it's still there, even if I only play guitar-amp-cab. I am at home and therefore playing at low volumes, I don't have the opportunity right now to see if it also happens at high volumes. I don't remember noticing it before, but I also did some recordings recently and noticed it on top of most of my clean samples.

Any ideas? :scared:

Ok, THIS is weird.. I traced the problem to one of my cables, that is equipped with a Neutrik "silent" plug. I never had or heard of such a thing, a bad cable creating a layer of noise only when you actually play some notes...
I'm not sure if it's related to the silent plug though, I just tested another one with the same system and it seems to be fine.

My personal opinion about Neutrik "silent" plugs is absolutely negative. Extremely unreliable and serious grounding issues.

I removed all of them from my own setup and every now and then I am having a laugh on my band's other guitarist's equipment issues which seem to be very often caused by these very same plugs. I hope he will also realize that they are more or less crap. Nice idea though - But only if you do not have mute or volume pedal etc.

Hello everybody, this is my first post to this forum. I have been a silent reader so far.

The first series of silent plugs went bad after a couple of weeks of usage. I complained about that to Neutrik and they sent me some new plugs with a rubber coating. These work fine now.

Yeah, too bad, because I love the concept and the convenience of the system...

Hey Peter - do you have any recommondation for good quality cables that don't cost a fortune?

I don't want to sound rude, but in case you want more detailed answers to the cable debate, please first search this forum and you will find long conversations concerning e.g. Cordial cables.
