I can't speak for RJF, but I'm running something nearly identical, a Mesa/Boogie Mark III Coliseum Blue Stripe and a Mesa Dual Rectifier (used to be a Triple, but I liked the brighter tone of the Dual more). IMHO, it sounds phenomical, and that combination ended my tone search...for now...since 2009 or so.
As far as cabs go, ive found it makes a HUGE difference for me. I usually run the Mark through a Mesa metal grille 4x12 loaded with C90s and EVs. The Rectifier usually goes to a Mesa Oversized 4x12 loaded with Mesa branded V30s. If the Mark sounds to bright, I'll use the Mesa cab with V30s and it's good to go.
I mainly play originals, but when we jam on covers, there isn't a tone I can't dial in. The big difference is in the cleans. The Mark has really chimey cleans (at least how I run it), and my Recto sounds really round and full. I've played with the FX and I found that I liked running the Mark dry, and the Recto gets the majority of the FX run through the loop. Lately, I've been running the Wah/Volume/Rotovibe pedals out front of the Mark and it's worked pretty well, since it's not as "3 dimensional" as the tone from the Rectifiers.
If you want some sample settings, feel free to PM me and I'll send a few to you. Just let me know what amp you're playing through and what tone you are looking for!
