Can anyone recommend a place where I can order some better electronics for this guitar? Thanks.

Talk to Steve(Sah5150) I believe that he redid the electronics on the same guitar and if I remember correctly, hes thrilled with the results

I redid the electronics in an Edwards Sykes model guitar completely. I went here:

Les Paul Electronics Kit

I went with the solderless option which works really cool... Here is a description of what I did and some pics:

Edwards Sykes LP Custom.

I ripped out all the electronics (the Duncan SH-6 Distortions that came stock sounded bad to me) and put in top line stuff including CTS pots (had to drill out the holes a bit - the japanese pots have smaller shafts) and Suhr Adrich pickups. The only other things I replaced were the tuners (I got the Planet Waves locking tuners - the original Gotohs were excellent actually, I just like locking tuners for fast string changes) and the cheesy chrome plastic pickup selector ring (got a chromed metal one that looks much better).

Hope that helps...

Awesome, thanks, Steve. I changed over to the page with just pots and caps only, as I have some Motor City Pickups already. Did you opt for the vintage or modern wiring? Short or long pots? (I know there's advantages with each type of wiring, but am curious what you ultimately decided on).

I chose Vintage wiring. You have to choose the short pots for the Edwards guitars, I believe... but I can't remember for sure... You'll need new knobs with the CTS pots as well. The Edwards ones are too small to fit...

Ok, I had already ordered some white speed knobs, so I'm set with that. It does indeed require short shaft pots (double-check online). I was leaning towards the vintage wiring, to preserve the tone when rolling down on the volume, so looks like I'll go with that. Thanks again for your help. The guitar is a great buy for what costs, isn't it?

Even when you count in the costs to upgrade the electronics, etc., it is a steal. Great LP style guitar - ebony board... just killer...

Just remember - with the American pots, you'll need to drill out the holes a bit to fit them in the guitar. The japanese pots aren't as wide... Simple and easy to do without marring the finish or anything...

man I love my Ed. John S. as it's.... can't imagine how it would sound/feel with upgraded electronics.

I lowered the SH6 a ton so they sound much bettter now, but I'll eventually get more vintage sounding pickups for it.

Weird, I wonder if mine was modified with new electronics before I bought it. I had one of the pots changed to a CTS push-push & didn't have to drill anything.

Must have been modded... From RS Guitarworks:

"All guitars manufactured in Japan, China, Indonesia and Mexico use metric pots (6mm), and have metric sized holes drilled for the pots. All pots sold by RS Guitarworks use standard pots and hole diameters (3/8"). Therefore, holes in the guitar, plates and/or pickguards will need to be enlarged to 3/8" to fit properly. Also, metric knobs will not fit the RS pot shafts; most popular knobs are available on the store in new and aged versions. Please call us for details or questions about installation."
