Well after trying to find real reviews on these pickups I decided to pull the trigger. I put these in my ESP Eclipse II and removed the stock EMG 81/60 combo that was previously in there.
I never really liked the EMG active series as they always sounded sterile to me and lacked punch and clarity. I use an 81 years ago and liked it, but I guess my tastes have changed as well. My favorite passive of all time is the Seymour Duncan custom (SH-5/TB-5) And I have this pickup in several of my guitars.
Okay back to the review
Of the EMG series, these are the most passive feeling pickups I have tried. I have tried and used all of the EMG active series except for the hetfields.
These do indeed have the punch and top end clarity of PAF style passives. and are very authentic sounding especially when you dial the guitar volume back a tad. Also I found that lowering these away from the strings give you much better results, than having them right up against the strings.
Also they even sound better with the 18 volt mod as all the EMG's do.
So for a active passive sounding pickup, these are great
