Hey all,

Got some great responses on another forum, so I figured I'd share the love... a little guitar porn pics, some sounds, and some fun...

Firstly, newly acquired Charvel DK24 HH 2P CM, which translates to 24 frets, 2 humbuckers, Gotoh 510 bridge (which feels wonderfully like a hardtail under my right palm), and a sweet caramelized maple neck (Jackson calls them roasted maple, but it's the same - I have a Jackson Juggernaut and it's the same feel). Came with the stock Seymour Duncan Full Shred and Alnico Pro II, which were great, but I tend to always fall back on the EMG side of things....

So, I yanked those out and went in a direction far from my norm (been using an 85 in the bridge for years, and really love the 57/66 and Het Sets now) and grabbed a pair of the EMG Fat 55's in zebra to really make the guitar look 'vintage' since it's a great looking Sunburst. But, before yanking the SD's, I did a quick little comparison (and it's hardly a fair comparison as I didn't really match volumes or anything else) for fun...

The Fat 55's are VERY interesting... not having actually ever played PAF's, I don't have a reference, but these guys sing and although maintain that certain 'something' that sounds/feels like an EMG, they are in a different world than the typical EMG fare, which is really cool...

At any rate, enjoy the guitar porn, because I think the Charvel looks (and plays) beautifully with the EMG's in there, and the spongy Alnico feel is making me play a bit differently than I normally do which is also very cool...

Enjoy!

I recently went passive after playing EMGs pretty much my entire guitar life. I had really settled in on ‘57s which I still really, really like. I tried a fat 55 and really liked it. Truly played and ‘felt’ like a low output passive humbucker. Almost a hot single coil vibe, but thicker. Cool pickup.

I've switched all my guitars from 81's to 85's in the bridge and i like it a lot more. I have the 57 in one guitar(LP Studio) that i'm borrowing but not sure i love it.

Hey Donnie

Try Fishman Fluence Classics as well. Or Moderns. Both kick ass.

I used to be a hardcore EMG 81 fan, but I find the Moderns do what the 81/85 does, just better. JMO.
