What are your guys opinions on Eminence? How do you guys like them compared to Celestions or other brands? I've tried a few Eminence loaded cabs many years ago and remember not being crazy about them compared to cabs with V30's, but I'm still curious. They have so many different models which makes it hard to decide.

My Mark IIC+ combo has an old Eminence MS-12 that sounds terrific! I used to own another IIC+ combo at the same time that had the typical EVM and compared the 2 and much preferred the Eminence MS-12, but I know they're not made anymore and possibly nothing like the current offering from Eminence. What are your guys thoughts?

The V12 most cab makers use are OK, I still like these better than V30 though.

Swamp Thang, Texas Heat and Tonker are awesome imo.

I have a 2x12 cab with a Swamp Thang and a Texas Heat. They sound big and fat without the spiky, sizzly high end that Celestions tend to have (especially the G12T75 and G12K100).

I have always really liked the Wizard, and the Lynch super V they used to make

I have 2 wizards in a cab. Very nice, crunchy or clean.

I don't know. Every time I've tried to gel with eminence, from a VHT D cab to a Randall Lynchbox they just seem to wilt under higher volume. They sound nice low/med volume but they don't hold up as well as Celestions when cranked.

Another key to remember with speakers is their application. Some speakers like being pushed, others don't. That doesn't mean one is better than the other necessarily. You just need to find a speaker that works in the context of how you plan to use it in the rig you have etc. My comment is more for recording and such overall but still applies in other scenarios.

I think they make some excellent speakers. It all comes down to application and personal preference though. I dig the Cannabis Rex for smoother clean tones, and I recently got a CV75 which I also like so far.

I'm a bit of a speaker junkie and find that most of the speakers out there have something to offer for a certain sound/rig/situation. Well, except for the Celestion G12H Anniversary......... :D

From my limited experience...

I've tried the Super V, Wizards, Legends, GB Legends, and the stock Gflex speakers. To my ears it seems they all had this broad and boomy low end to them that I don't hear in Celestion V30s, Greenbacks, or Lynchbacks. Can be favorable to some, not to others. YMMV

^^^^

I've owned many, small blocks, governors, man o Wars, and they do have this low end to them. But, what it does is makes all channels useable. Cleans sound more full, less thin. Hated small blocks and the cv-75. I like eminence in a 2x12, but in my old splawn 4x12, it was too much. Constantly fought to tame the lows. Partial splawn cabs' fault. If you can limit internal reflection space, I bet they would be great.

I'd like to try a Texas heat or swamp thing sometime.

On a side note, I cannot find any celestion I like besides the 8ohm reissue greenbacks. Tried the Mesa v30's, EVH's,

I'd also like to try some wgs veterans one day.

I have a vertical slant 2x12" with a Governor on top and a Cannabis Rex on the bottom. Sounds great to me. The combo provides some great bottom end, with the governor providing some sizzle, and it's not muddy or boomy. I think I could have gone with two Governors, and been just as happy, but I don't know if it would have been slightly too nasally/middy. If I never played clean then, two Governors would probably be the way to go. I'd have to swap out the Cannabis Rex to be sure, but I get great, clear, spanky clean tones out of the cab that I assume have much to do with the Cannabis Rex.

I like the Texas Heat/Swamp Thang combo. And I find the Delta Pro 12A to be a better EVM 12L for a 1/3 of the price.

+1 on the Delta Pro 12A. Great speaker. Kind of a bitch to break in but once they are it's magical.

Hell yes! But I use that cab for bass as well so it wasn't too hard :D

I've been using Legend V12s in every cab I've owned for the last 8 years or something like that. I love them. No matter what other speakers I try, I always come back to the V12s.

Wizards are my fave eminence followed the regular delta 12a.

How's the low end on the Wizards? The Eminence tone guide describes it as "fat/chunky" and "aggressive," but some of the user feedback I've read claims otherwise.

It is present but not huge. The low on the delta is huge. The wizard is pretty bright. Highs can mask lows.
