Last years when I saw Last In Line live, Vivian Campbell was plugged straight into an Engl Blackmore… and it was some of the best hard rock guitar tone that I have heard. Period. I have heard that the Blackmore is a stripped down version of the Savage. So can the Savage get the same tones as the Blackmore?

I ask because I don’t see any hard rock YouTube clips of the Savage. It’s always someone doing down tuned metal in the demo. Drop C# is as low as I go. Lol. I’m hoping that the Savage 120 MK2 can cop the Blackmore tones, as they seem to be easier to find. Any help and opinions would be much appreciated. Thank you!

IDK, but I own an Engl rack (E530 preamp, E850/100 power amp with 6L6GC) for at least 10? years. I went looking for a new Engl, and purchased an E651 (Artist Edition 100, EL34) for classic, hard rock tones.

Just delivered last week, got the last one at MF.

Worth a look IMO

Engl Rack

I like the E651, which can get into hi gain too; so much that I'm selling the rack, but it's big and heavy so it's local pickup only. If it sells, fine, if not, fine.

I don't think you can go wrong with Engl for classic rock sounds, but it's not the strongest feature of this rack system, the cleans and hi gain are much better IMO.
