Anyone have experience with both these amps? How do they compare?

On a more specific note, is the output transformer of the FB100 significantly larger than the tiny tic-tac case sized one on the FB60?

Yes the OT is a lot bigger.

The FB100 is darker sounding and has a voice around the low mids. The gain is a lot more usable throughout its range than the FB60. Meaning that if the gain is set low on the FB100 it sounds killer as well as if it is set higher. The gate on the FB100 is the best gate on an ENGL i have heard and I have owned the Invader 100 and SE.

The FB60 is a killer all out metal amp, and sounds great but i like the FB100 better.

I thought the gain was too much by the time it reached 10:00.

I don't think I ever got it past noon. What I meant was that when the gain is set low on the FB60, it sounds thin but not on the FB100...that's what I should have said.

That's because you don't have the spirit of satan flowing through your veins.

Never heard or owned the FB60.
I owned the ENGL Invader 150 in the past and loved it.
The ENGL Fireball 100 plays and sounds good.
Gain is usable even when at 2 or 3. There is a mid scoop switch that really sucks the mids out but you have to crank it up a little louder.
Very good amp for Super metal.
I owned a Framus Cobra in the past too and I like the Fireball 100 better.
We play about every weekend and I do get a few songs in with the ENGL.
It really CUTS in a band setting.
Cant see it going anywhere anytime soon. ;)

Funny thing.....
I was just going to write a similar thread on the Diezel VH4/Einstein/Herbert for comparisons.

Then there's the difference. My FB60 sounded great untill it was side by side with my 5152, then the FB turned to mush. The 5152 walked/stomped/trampled it.

I find it only cuts when I have the MID button activated.
Scoop the mids.....the amp damn near dissapears when the bass and drums kick in. Unless I crank it REALLY LOUD!!
But the Mid-boost button brings this amp to life. I never shut it off.

Man I loved the Fireball untill first time I used it in a band setting. Gain at 10 o'clock mids at 2 o'clock, brightness engaged/dis depth engaged/dis fuck I was all over the place it would not cut through. Even switched cabs, still the same.
Listed it for sale the following day.

Thats why I am diggin my FJA modded JCM 800.
SUPER thick sounding and it is like a brick shithouse when playing.
Not SUPER metal.......but for 80% of what we play....it SMASHES!
From PANTERA on higher........
have to flick over to the ENGL Fireball 100.... (mid boost engaged!  )
