I remember like 4 or 5 years ago when Engl stuff wasn't nearly as popular or "common" everyone seemed to think they were super high end, boutique amps. Now it seems that the general perception is that they're about on par with Peavey stuff. Pretty funny I think. I couldn't really care less about what the things look like inside. As long as they sound good. I think the Powerball sounds like garbage, but the quality had nothing to do with that. Just not my style of tone.

i used to think the same thing. but you really have to watch what speakers you run it through. its not like my 5150 where i can plug and play into just about anything and sound "alright or excellent". it truely is a beast to be tamed imho. but i used to agree with you 100%.

I also forgot to add that 7 of the 9 engls i owned was brand new, just so people dont give me shit and say you dont know what happened before you had it stuff, the 2 i got used were just fine and it was the brand new ones that broke down. for some reason i just got some bad ones, you guys are proof of that.

But I am a METAL HEAD...so that says alot!
Cant dig the SRV tone...or the FENDER CLEANS......I need me some ASS STOMPING Metal tones!!

We have disagreed before about silly crap but I know you are a straight shooter and have always reported that things have either changed or finished what you started. For you to go from a huge supporter to disppointed says alot.

@zao: are you sure you weren't being filmed for a candid camera episode? j/k dude, sounds unbelievable that you should have SO many new amps go bad on you. Were they all bought from the same place? Maybe they were all handled by the biggest douche in the world?
Anyway, it sucks to hear about that stuff especially them turning you down like that even though you still supported them

My amps were bought from a couple different dealers, by the sounds of it I'm the only one that had any problems. It sucks for me because I really loved the tone, it also sucks that they wouldn't help me, I am glad everybody else are reporting good things about their amps. Engl is highly recommended around here and well thought of.

Swampdonkey from the deth boards is a member here and he had issues with his engl se, zak03 also had issues with his engl, those are just a coupe I can remember off the top of my head but if I wanted to search around I can find about 10 others that had problems.
I'm definately not the only one but I am not gonna make a big deal out of it and post every thread about engl quality. You guys aren't having problems on this board and there's no sense trying to start trouble.

Scott knows I loved my engls and it would have took alot for me to change my mind.

I've seen a few gut shots of them on the net that looked kind of scary but without having been inside of one of them myself I can't say more than that. I can say that this album was recorded with a Savage 120 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTVyRWiwVNU and these guys got a great metal tone with it. Of course youtube doesn't do the audio justice.

Maybe if I found something with a simple layout like the bm or fb 100 and if it was really cheap I would give it a chance again, I would only buy used.
I would rather buy used because 1yr warranty isn't much and with a simple layout it would be easy to repair if anything ever went wrong.

Amps like the engl se are way too complicated and have too much going on inside.
If I ever buy another engl it's not gonna be anytime soon and I wouldn't sell anything I have to get one, like I mentioned before it would have to be a really cheap deal and used to make it worth it for me.

To be fair the grail XTC, the 100B, looks like a PC as well inside. My JVM looks like Dell made it

Sucks about your experiences...I remember way back when you used to rave about the SE and how badass it was. A few years ago I really wanted an SE and then when I got the chance to have some time with one realized that, for me, my Blackmore blew it away. The guy that was selling it agreed. I felt like a burden had been lifted when I realized the SE wasn't for me because A) they are expensive as hell, and B) they are way too complicated on the inside.

If you do try them again, I recommend the Fireball 100. I had one and in my opinion it did the SE high gain thing better than the SE. I definitely see myself buying one again and the only reason I sold it was to fund my Fortin.
