Hey, you gear nerds and geeks! :)
I actually wanted to post a clip 50 vs 100watt version but since i already recorded the Savage, i thought i put the three together... It was recorded with the Grossmann Sg-Box (Celestion G12k100/Shure sm7b) using my Dean Cadikill, loaded with a Seymour Duncan Sh13. I didn't try to make them sound the same. The Savage is actually a little brighter than the others with its setting. Wysiwyg, settingwise in the video. So there is some room for adjustments with the pots :)

Cheers!

Sounds brutal!!   I actually like the Savage 120 slightly better than the EVHs, but I am biased since I owned one.

The EVH's have more clarity than the savage, if you compare them directly. But the savage is also a great amp.
But i think i prefer the 50 watt version, also :)
Do you think it sounds "boxy", in any way?

No, I don't hear any "boxyness" out of any of these amps. Sounds great IMO. The EVH 50 sounds better in this clip than the EVH 100 though.

To my ears - only savage sounded boxy.
Both EVH's were great , especially the 50.

The savage is one of my favorite amps. It hold together with extremly low tunings if your into that kinda thing. One of the very few amps no boost is nessary to remain tight under this condition from a mass engineered amp at this time. But the new Randall stuff sounds very promising for that sort of thing...

is the difference between the 50W and 100W 5153 also as dramatic 'in the room' when played loud? the 50W seems to have more pressure on the mids. and i usually prefer the 100W vs 50" version of the same amp...

There are differences...My 5150 III 100 is a generation 1. I guess the 50 watt is based on the latest revision, gain and soundwise...it's also a bit brighter and has all the power and omph you will ever need even with extreme downtunings...
I did'nt try to make them sound the same. That should definately be possible
