Are EBMM bass owners welcome?
Of course

In that case:)

Just picked up this bass recently. Its a 2008 MM Sterling 5 string, SH. Loving it so far. Its a bit neck heavy, but adjusting the strap up a bit helped alot as I am sure getting back my 3" wide strap that is on loan. The neck on the 5 string is kind of interesting in that it is pretty much unfinished, but I like it. I had a 4 string MM sterling before and liked it, but always struggled with string balance on it, but it played great.

Loving this 5 string Sterling enough that if I get a chance to play some EBMM guitars I am going to jump at it...

I've always been a fan of EB guitars, but never owned one.....that is until this past month. I walked into one of my favorite guitar shops and immediately noticed an Albert Lee HH. I always thought the AL's had a cool vibe going with the points and overall shape, but the 3 single coil configuration wasn't what I was going for. Long story short....I plugged it in and knew after a few chords and lead runs that I wanted it. Made a few trades and walked out with a beauty of a guitar...cosmetically and playability. The brazilian rosewood neck is impeccable. Possibly my favorite neck of any guitar. The African mahogany that the body is made of actually lends to really nice resonance and sustain. The build quality it 2nd to none as well. I'm not a big fan of the strat style knobs on the guitar, and the tuning pegs can be a little bit tricky to work around due to the smaller sized head stock...but overall I'm all thumbs and toes up. I'm usually not a signature guitar fan, but this is a perfect guitar for me. It came from Guitar Emporium in Louisville, KY, if anyone is curious.

Can you give us what you feel are the big difference between the JP6 BFR and the PRS guitars?

Jim

I love the tone of my PRS guitars and the JP equally. The quality of workmanship on both guitars is also very high. Its mostly the configuration of the JP that I love compared to the PRS.

- On the JP the neck is nice and thin, one of my first guitars was an old Charvel. I played that for the longest time, so I have always been partial to a thinner neck.

- I can't stand the old rotary pickup selector on my PRS's. The pickup switch on the JP is in a natural and convenient location. I was glad to see that PRS has moved away from the rotary switch.

- The piezo pickup on the JP lets you get some really nice clean tones.

- I like the feel of the tremelo bridge on the JP better. Also the trem bar feels more substantial than the PRS trem bar.

 All valid points

Seriously... please give us clips of the Marsha a dn your EBMM EVH

The EBMM and Marsha are a perfect match and sound awesome together. Unfortunately, I haven't made any home recordings in a long, long time and do not have any clips of the EBMM and Marsha. I will set up my recording gear soon to bust out a clip for the thread.

Wolfgang > Ernie ball for sound

Ernie Ball > wolfgang for playability....

What in the world do you choose? Why cant I have both? :p

I have two Axis'. One has stock pickups, and it was refretted with standard stainless steel frets. It is tobacco sunburst. Then, my Amber quilt one, has jumbo stainless frets and PV wolfgang USA pickups in it (The stock bridge pickup died, and like a dumbass I didn't get it repaired and lost it). The Wolfgang pickups give a hotter tone though, and it is nice to have two different sounds. Both have D-tuna's on them. Best guitars I have ever owned.

hate to be rude, but from larry dimarzio himself, the pickups on the peavey wolfgang and axis are identical. The EVH wolfgangs have different pups though...

Perhaps disparity in the windings? Not sure, but they are identical. I'll try to find his email tonight and send it to you.

Despite what you say, the tone is very different from the guitars. The Wolfgang pickups are way more hot than the stock ones. it could be due to a height difference between the two, but the two guitars I have sound drastically different from each other. Also, the reason I picked up the wolfgang pickups was that I got the pair from a guy who swapped his out with the Crunchlab and the other JP pickup. I offered him $50 for the pair, expecting to denied, but he said sure. One of the best deals I got all year!

Look up two posts. Im VERY accutely aware of the differences :p. The wolfgang is just MORE sounding anyway, even unplugged. That arched maple cap and thicker body probably go a long way. I agree with you, they dont sound too similar, and thats why I asked dimarzio what the difference was, and he simply responded "nothing at all". And it may perhaps be that larry dimarzio didnt or couldnt get into the specifics of any differences. Perhaps same coils with a stronger magnet in the wolfgang? Thatd make a LOT of sense to me actually.

heres a vid of mine comparing the two. The wolfgang is just so much more resonant and louder unplugged

Yeah, I know. I've owned three USA wolfgangs in the past. I don't think Larry Dimarzio could definitively know if there was a difference, because Peavey made the wolfgang pickups. I do know in the EBMM, they are hotter. Same basic sonic properties, but louder. I dig 'em both. I'll measure them sometime and compare. My money is that the wolfgang's read higher resistance.
