i had the chance for the first time in my life to try an upper end ESP yesterday in my 2 hour drive to sam ash.

i played a new ESP with the following specs from what i could tell:

maple neck/fretboard
albone inlays
OFR
Alder body (asked)
Regular Black Finish
JB in the bridge/59 in the neck

new for $1400. this neck is the fastest neck i have ever played. even better than the guitars i have had custom luthier work done and/or also worked on myself.

ive tried to do research on the price and the model... i cant find the guitar anywhere on the internet or any information on it period. im guessing this is a one of a kind ESP? i dont know anything other than its a Standard. Can someone explain whats going on? is this an older model they are trying to sell new?

ive got a guy that would nock the tax off out the door.

just want some opinions from some ESP experts that know what is going on. ive never owned one or know much about them and always wanted to try one out. i have to say that guitar left me shocked.

so should i go grab it? opinions?

thanks ahead of time :)

yes, thats it! :D

im really not sure if i should buy used because of that particular neck. im not one to buy guitars that i cant play first. but if i had the chance i wouldnt mind used. but regardless, that is indeed the guitar that i had the chance to play.

$1400 is a ripoff. You can get a used one for $700-800 or so.

i have that exact esp mII and is my main guitar....i love it....i got mine new from alpha-music.com for like $1100 with an esp case last year.

just scared to grab a used one because of the quality of the necks. this is the first high quality ESP ive ever played but that doesnt mean the quality of the woods is constant across every guitar

or is it?

just scared to buy a used one and get a shit quality piece of wood for the neck, or sub-par compared to this one. but thank you for the insight for the resale value and what they can be had for. ill definately do some research =]

you got it with a case?

damn sam ash is blowing smoke up my ass. they said ESP's never came with cases when in new condition, no matter what model or where you bought it.

is the neck excellent grade pure maple? if so i might try to look in the used market.

Nah, Japanese ESP models are consistent. I bought mine used. Feel free to buy it either way. ESP raised their prices a little as I think they were $1,300 a year ago with a case. Still not out of the realm though as basic usa strat is $1K. Here's another good model:

I can't tell you much about the price, but MIIs are amazing guitars. I do prefer Horizons over them, but MII is faster playing guitar. I yet have to find better necks than those on Horizons & MIIs.

consistency is awsome. ill definately be considering a used "new" model then. i think im going to spring for it

said it had a crack on the front :/

there is one by 7stringer right here on the forum for $899 including case in mint condition.

HOPEFULLY he still has it for sale. i sent him an email to his personal email account. it really doesnt matter though sadly i have to clear out the stuff in my signature first and foremost. i just got the ISP Decimator to grab my 5150 by the balls a bit

I bought my ESP M-II for about $725 shipped, and it's my favorite guitar at the moment. The neck is the most awesome C shape out there. Quick clip of it with my 5150:

i love that tone your getting. you can tell from the way it plays how it sounds recorded as well. the guitar plays so loose (not setup loose.. just neck shape loose) you can speak right through it. its easy to hear after just playing one.

thanks for the clip!

they are nice guitars, im no esp expert but i have owned about 20 esp over the years. i ahve played that model and it was a nice guitar but if i was buying one new i wouldnt pay 1400 without the case, call nick at piney hills studio in louisiana and he will give you a better price, tell him tom sent ya. hes the only dealer i will buy from if i wanted a new esp. i still have about 6 esp guitars right now and im very happy with them.

any chance he could come around the prices in this topic you think? i havent recovered from my emergency ISP deal i couldnt pass up. but ill be glad to give him a call and talk anyway, PM me his number if you have it

PS. zao: could you PM me the comparsion of your 5150II and the uberschall? just out of curiosity really.

thanks for the insight as well. i only got to jam on it for maybe 45 minutes before they were pushing for cash... so i hope it will be an excellent addition.

Wouldn't matter at all to me. I don't care if guitars aren't pristine. I'd rather they have some flaws so I can get them cheaper. Looks like you can't even see the crack anyways.

yeah i know bro. but i take excellent care of my gear, it reflects who i am when i go out on gigs. for me thats alot of money to pay for something that has a dent in it. im not one to complain about ANY other gear being used or how it looks - i dont want to give the wrong impression lol, but i have high expectations for my guitars, really high expectations.

the only exception is my charvel which i found a dent when got it on trade. the rest of my gear is in excellent condition and kept clean. both for presentation and also if i have to let it go due to a family emergency.

ok so i need some help on this, if anyone has ever done this before or has tips.

im going through nick, the ESP dealer in california you mentioned zao. i gave him a call and spoke to him specifically about a month or so ago.

i would like to order an M-II in white (same guitar as the 2009 model just different color). but since this is my dream guitar ive decided im not going to settle for black, especially with this much money involved. but i cant pay the stupid crazy $5,000 for a custom shop either, nor can i wait 1.5 years for a guitar.

so i did some research and heard about guys ordering from the UK/Japan a color that USA doesnt offer. how do i go about setting this up? i dont mind paying extra shipping, but will i be suretaxed? what about customs? im getting a great deal through this USA dealer. im guessing if i do this, i throw that completely out the window? :aww:

just really lost on how where to go from here. im really close to getting the cash together and making the final call. i just dont want to call Nick, the dealer im going through, and bugging him over this blindly. he's helping me out a great bit, not sure if i want to jinx it.

any info would be helpful. From UK/Japan guys (boof?) as well.

There are no extra fees. We don't have customs/taxes here. The only potential fee would be your bank charging a percentage for doing foreign currency exchange. It's usually like ~3% for most banks. BTW, this year, ESP only offers the M-II in Red and Black overseas. They offered them in White previously, but I don't really recall many "special" colors. You could also get a guitar repainted over here.
