It starts with me being part of a scam. I notice a strange >$1K charge to my debit card from Apple. I didn't order any Apple products. I contact Apple and find out it is because of the IPad Pro I just ordered. I tell them I did not order it and they respond by saying they will investigate. I contact my bank and have them cancel that debit card, issue a new one, and reject/refund that charge. I get a refund from my bank. Crickets after that. It's been a couple of months and nothing from Apple and I still have an alleged IPad Pro in an unopened box.

Keep it? Can I even use this thing in a 'kosher ' fashion (not concealing anything)?

I should also mention that I don't like Apple and kind of have beef with them. :gethim:

I’m not even sure why you’d have to create a thread asking this question. You don’t know what the right thing is to do?

So you saw the debit charge of 1K and contacted your bank and apple or did the I pad show up then you saw the charge? You are not 100% clear on the chronology of events.....

Either way if you got the charge refunded to you by your bank you need to contact Apple and attempt to return the Ipad. They are a victim of this crime just as much as you were.

If after you contact them to return it and they still don't follow up with you then that is on them.

I saw the charge before it arrived but after it had shipped. I wasn't happy that Apple just charged me >$1K without my consent or ordering anything. I got rid of my IPhone6 in 2017 and haven't done anything Apple since.

Apple knows where they shipped the IPad. But you are right that they are the victim (now that I have refund). A victim due to their own careless business practice but still a victim. It didn't occur to me until today that...hey, I hate Apple...I'm kind of OK with that.

I don't think you did anything wrong. You contacted Apple and told them what happened. They may have just dropped the ball on the process to get it back with everything going on, etc. Like I said, you didn't do anything wrong per se.

I bought a 4-track back in the 90s and the store charged me like $300 less or something from the price. I got out to my car and noticed it. I told my wife they charged me and she didn't want me to go back in. I told them and then they charged me full price. It sucked not getting a deal but I have always been like that. I know that somewhere, someone is taking a hit and I didn't want it to be the store. Granted, Apple probably makes their products for $50 and sells them for $1000 but is what it is.

Plus it will give you peace of mind that they won't come back later. I'd say this. Contact them one last time. Bullshit them about how much you love Apple and that your baby is named Apple, etc. Lay it on thick. See what they do after that. LOL. Jk. Seriously though, if you can't stand them and their products anyway, I'd just try to contact them.

What?

He meant it was assumed he ordered it. He called them to tell him he didn't order one.

Well my stance on it is that I know you want to keep it so just keep it. Unethical yes, id maybe make an attempt to contact them but my ethics go to small businesses and every day people. i wouldn't feel bad getting a freebee from a multi billion dollar corporation.

Someone bought you an iPad pro with your own money and then sent it to you?

I read the whole thread and nowhere does it say how much you want for the iPad. How much, pp, shipped? Trades?

Well, he's got no money in it so he'll probably sell it for cheap cause there's nothing to recoup...yaaaaaa riiiiiiiiiight! Lol!

That was the scam. They somehow got access to my Apple account and the associated debit card. I assume they tried to get it shipped to them, somewhere in the documentation it said "multiple shipping desinations" or something. I never saw an itemized receipt.

I wouldn't sell it. That seems to cross a line I won't cross. I'll give them one more chance.

Beyond the ethics, is that you're even considering keeping property that belongs to Apple and which you came to possess over what you claim was a third party's fraud. It was a scammer, but they somehow accidentally shipped it to the legitimate cardholder??? That seems pretty convenient, especially when coupled with your initial contemplation to keep it. Even if your story is legit, the optics are terrible.

Apple may have proof of delivery. If not, those devices phone home over the internet and/or cellular networks. Apple may eventually realize they've fulfilled an order for which they've not received payment, and the order was placed on your account using a payment method you'd used before, and which shipped to your address. They'll send you a bill and then turn it over for collections.

Basically, you have someone else's property as a result of a crime. Even if you're not the one who committed the crime, by selling or even using it you'd benefitting from it. Is that a position you want to be in if some crusader decides to do some digging into this order? I'd either find an apple store and return it (with a return receipt), or ship it to one, or hold onto it in unused condition for now.

It will be flagged as stolen or other as soon as you try to register it.

Take it to an apple store. Get a receipt from them stating that they received it from you. Move on.

Karma.....Just return it and be done with it.
Karma doesn't apply to corrupt corporations. In fact, if it did I would say this would be Karma being repaid to apple.

OP. If you havent heard anything yet the Ipad is yours. You made your attempt.

I ordered a entertainment stand from wal mart. One of the shelves had some damage. I called, they sent a replacement and that theyd send ups or whoever to pick up the one I had.

Never heard back, called them a few times and never got anywhere. Seemed to be that they already marked it resolved.

I kept it, flipped the shelf around. 2 for 1 fuck em.

Im not saying apple has marked your case resolved but I am saying most of their employees are probably idiots and you may never hear back again.
