What are your thoughts, soundwise on the EVH(fender) 4x12 cabinets. How do they compare to other cabinets

I plugged into a few over the years in some Music Stores and they've always sounded really good. I'd take them over new Marshall cabs without hesitation. Not sure if it's the speakers or cab construction? Maybe both.

How did they(EVH) compare to bogner or the rest of the highend cabs out there.

The Bogner cabs have a little more thump and low end in them IMO. Ive got a EVH 4-12 now with the EVH Celestions and I LOVE it, it's a perfect match for the EVH Mini!!

Has anybody compared the 2x12 and 4x12? The 4x12 has the EVH speakers, and the 2x12 has H30s, is that right? I saw a comment on here that the 2x12 and 50w sounds better with the 60w speakers too.

Never compared the 2x12 to the 4x12 but I had H30s in my Zilla 2x12 until Thursday when I put G12Ms in it. Personally I MUCH prefer them. The H30s are quite scooped and metal sounding IMO.

You get 1 point deducted from your man card. :D

Then the H30s might work for me since the mid-range is a tad harsh with my Orange cab. I mostly play metal/hard rock stuff.

Love, love, LOVE my EVH 4x12 with my 5150III 100w. It sounds really rich, thick, and musical. It's a really great quality cab, and they are cheap on the used market.

I have a white and a black 5153 4x12s and a 5153 white head.
I fell in love with these cabs after using one with a bit more volume than you usually use to play at music store or at home. Like it so much that I've bought an extra black one to use with my other amps.
I also have an original 67 basketweave with original 20w greenies that is my favorite sounding basketweave to this date, and I've had at least 9 of them that I recall.
The 5153 is as good soundwise as my 67, the difference is the 5153 is tighter on the low end, and the 67 a bit smoother, overall.
So, for old school classic rock, blues, etc... the 67 is still a winner. For everything else the 5153 wins hands down.
By the way, don't let the wattage and the fact it's a greenback fool you... plug a 5153 head, red(3rd) channel, with master above 10:00 and gain above noon with a 7 or 8 strings and you'll be scared to death with how tight, big and clear this cabinet is!
My favorite cabinet for the last 3 years!

How would the EVH 4X12 cab react when used with a marshall plexi for old van halen.

It's a replica of the cabinets he used during the VH early days, so, it's just a bit tighter(because it's a new speaker vs 40 old speaker), but it's as close as you'll get to the sound his cab at the time produced.
Some people consider the old basketweave the holy grail of the 4x12s, and the EVH was the best cabinet for that type of tone I've tried to this day. Besides, they look cool and are built like tanks!
I've owned a lot of different cabinets, and still own a few. The EVH are the ones used on 85% of all the guitar tracks we've been doing here.

Had the EVH cab and Bogner cab loaded with EVH celestions side by side.
Pretty close sounding. Bogner a tad bigger sounding. Real close.

I thought EVH cabs had greenbacks?

They are. Stock G12-M Heritage speakers with "Gimmie the dough" stipes on them.
Can't say enough goods about that cab. My favorite current production cab.

I will be willing to trade my mint condition no flaws what so ever VHT/Fryette 4x12 slant cabinet loaded with 25 watt celestion greenbacks(thats when VHT/Fryette was using celestion speakers)for a mint condition EVH 5150III 4X12 cabinet.

Actually, those stripes are "you save big time" stripes. I still don't get how these speakers are identical to the $200 dollar G12M Heritage speakers. They go for 50 bucks less individually, and if you buy them in an EVH 4x12, it's like you're getting the cab for $200. Apparently adding the stripes to them makes them $50 cheaper per speaker.
