EVH 5150 iii mini - 50 watt - ROLL CALL

Mesa trad size slant w/ Mesa V30s. Sounds great. Aggressive, complex, punchy but smooth overall.

Only other speakers I've tried the amp through so far are Chinese V30s and I didn't like that pairing nearly as much.

Personally, I found that speakers that tame the high end a bit, work best with the EVH's.
G12H30 55Hz, GL10-35 (in the Marshall 1965A & B cabs, 4x10"), G12-65, old T75's (serifed font...those sound nothing like the scooped, screechy stuff of today).

Still got mine and the stock 2-12" cab..with some preamp tube rolling its set on kill now, perfect for what I need it for, never given me even 1 problem..if anybody needs one I have a brand new 4 button switch I'll let go of,I have been trying to list it here on the forum but can't get the pics to load..

I had cool results pulling the presence way back to 2/10 and jacking up the channel treble knobs to 7/10.
It clears up the modern sounding fizzy high end cut and begins sounding clearer and more on the Soldano side.
Do the opposite and it's classic 5150 buzzsaw that we all love.

I totally agree. I like mine best through an old Marshall with G12-65's. Helps keep the highs from being harsh.

Best post advice I've seen maybe ever. I've had this 50w for awhile and never tried this approach...really awesome! Thanks!

To tame up some of the V30 peaks I installed the following:

V1: Ruby 12AX7AC5 HG+
V2: Standard JJ 12AX7
V3: Tung-Sol 12AX7
V4: Stnd JJ 12AX7
V5: Tung-Sol 12 AX7

I'm actually looking for some Soldano-style knobs for mine.

I think the red and blue chickenheads are too tacky, personally.

Yeah we'll see. I want to try a bold unique look based on function. Rather than a typical safe looking asthetic.
Otherwise I'll go with all black pointers.

Wow, actually not that bad with the colored ones.

I was afraid it would end up like this Christmas tree below the Soldano:

All black does look better though.

I ended up sticking with the black. The red & blue looked good too but would be better suited for low light and stage conditions. These things take seconds to switch around anyways.
I was pleasantly surprised with these dials though. Much better quality than the white OEM ones. These ones have brass inserts and hex screws instead of flatheads, so they're more stable and easier to attach/remove.

I like using the colored knobs for quicker identification:

It's TRUE the new models do n ki t have the fender logo on the left of 5153 logo?

I have a 2016 5153 50w and it does NOT have the fender logo on the front.

Very cool. I thought so. Ironically it now sounds better and is more user friendly.. nothing against gender but that's quite interesting
