Awesome! Even though I think his tone is WAY too gained out, it's always great to see him demo his own stuff!

Wish the video was much longer!

EXCELLENT VID!!!

1) I like how he explains his tone feelings change and evolve. This is exactly what I have been saying in some VH threads. that Maybe Ed didn't want to use the VH1 tone anymore, or he didn't like it as much as we would think, but those were the only resources he had at that time to get that sound. Not like there were all these high gainers around.

2) last was 2 cameras showing his technique. He is a very tips of the fingers player...action was medium...not low, and he overlaps his thump a lot. Plus his picking hand goes from index finger to middle finger holding the pick, along with certain angle.

Wow! Do not want. That thing has even MORE gain? blue channel same DNA as gained out Red channel? Forget about it.. I only want this amp for the green and blue channel. His tone was wayyy too gained out for me as well. Funny that people still argue about how much gain he used when here he is a self admitted gain whore. Makes you rethink a lot doesn't it.

Yup! I responded to the same thread on TGP, saying how could anyone want MORE gain and low end in Ch 2 & 3??

Green and blue all the way!

I agree. I've got the fifty watt head and even put low gain tubes in it and it still has too much gain. I wish there was a mod to decrease the gain. Also I don't mind that channel three and two are tonally a bit different... I actually like that.

I still like this amp a lot. It's not the best tone ever but to be honest I've yet to play an amp that had THE perfect tone and feel. I personally don't think that amp exists. This amp sounds very damn good and has the features I need so it's been the amp that has stuck with me for longer than any amp has in a good while.

His tone now has lost the definition it once had. His amps are not for me. I think Al Estrada gets a better VH tone than EVH ha

Watching that was a little weird. It was almost like someone doing VH covers..but not exact covers. I wonder how many takes it took him to say all that without tripping over his words. I love Ed, but I guess I have hard time dealing with the 2015 Ed.

Channel two was, is perfect on the original amp. Maybe add 10-15% more gain, but do not change the character of it, at all. Channel 3, do not add more gain :gethim: lower the gain on channel one would of been nice, 15% maybe. The other options are great, resonance , bias probes and pot, looks.

I wish they had a custom shop, even for their amps where you could choose all your options and Taylor it to your style.

Chris

I liked channel two on the 100w but LOVED channel two on the 50w. There was no need to change the characteristics or gain on that channel. Like others have said, Ch 1 and Ch 2 are great and should not have been messed with. Ch 3 is great for super heavy stuff.

My guess is that the modification to the Stealth model was more for marketing and to drum up business.

If he wanted it note for note, I'm Sure Al Estrada would be happy to step in

Same here. Thats why I modded channel 2 on my 100 to the 50 watt specs. It sounds awesome now.I actually like it a little better than the 50 now because of the extra girth the 100 has

Nice. I didn't know you could do that.

This is the stealth everyone was raving about no?
And it has a blue with increased gain like the 50 watter everyone was raving about?
And that was the main complaint of the orig 100 watt right?
And the orig 100 is still avail.
And the gain control lets you roll it back right?
Now there is 4 versions to choose from?

I'm convinced you can't make guitarists happy.

I received a new 5153 100S yesterday....love the amp! Ch1, 2, and 3 are all great.
Ch1 on the 100S with the gain dimed, and EMG 81 + SPC, and a OD808 can do early (rock/metal...Mercyful Fate, RIOT, Madien, Legs Diamond, UFO, Tesla, etc..)
Ch2 and 3 are thrash heaven for me (Slayer, Exodus, Testament, StormTroopers of Death, M.O.D.) and modern stuff like Lamb of God and Killswitch Engage.

Awesome amp!

so VHis basically ch1... and ch2/3 are thrash and death metal?

strange.

at any rate, i dont think changes with this amp was driven by marketing at all...i think eddie wanted changes and they realized they could make money off of the already made changes. its no coincidence eddie mentions still lovin the original 5153..thats marketing :)

Notice the chrome Floyd on the stealth guitar? ;)

Anyways, I had the regular 100w and channel 2 definitely needed more gain, and it's true that channel 2 and 3 didn't blend very well when switched. I also had two 50w heads and that amp seemed kind of 'toyish' compared to the 100w. Yes more gain on blue channel but just lacked 'something'. I think all these changes were exactly what everyone wanted and now everyone wants to gripe about them. Go figure

I think he's using the titanium saddles

I guess I'm in the minority in that I hate channel 2 on my 100. It needs more gain. And yes, I plan to mod it soon. All of the Stealth clips I have heard sound great. I also think it's funny how the 5150 III was considered a killer amp last year on this forum, and now I read a lot of hate for it.
