i noticed on ebay they had some charvel evh series guitars, and especially noticed the white frankenstrat replica. i was curious if anyone has owned any of these andhow well they play ?? are they basically a san dimas series guitar with a kool paint job ??

i was thinking the white and black frankenstrat replica would match my white/black 5150III i have coming and my white/black speaker cabs ..

I had the White/black one.
Great playing/sounding guitars.
Not sure if they are the same specs as the San Dimas ones or the So-cal series.

i would guesstimate the white/black one to be similar to the so-cal just because of the pickguard but im not a hundred percent sure. i really like the looks just not sure if i am liking the fact it only has a bridge pickup ...

I would go with one of the So-cal or San Dimas strats. Cheaper and they have Dual pickups!

i thought about doing the same thing but i really want a white one lol. i know that sounds dumb but i just like white or white/black guitars

To me its not just a pretty So-Cal. Great sounding guitars, the pickups are fantastic. The body is basswood and they very light. The neck has a 'similar' feel to a So-Cal but stands on its own. Its actually a workhorse guitar for me. I take to rehearsals all the time for the d-tuna so I don't have to take two guitars. The pickup responds well to the volume control so it makes it very versatile.

I thought the necks were larger on the EVHs if my memory is correct. The basswood kills it for me, I am not a basswood hater by any means but for a charvel I like alder.

Nice guitars, i owned the red and white and the black and yellow, i thought they sounded awsome, the necks and fretwork i liked better than the 1k charvels everybody loves, also didnt have the 4 piece body like some of the cheaper charvels i have seen.
I loved the pickup in the evh.

Well, I don't own a So-Cal so its hard for me to do a direct comparison. I have played them occasionally. The necks have similar but not exact feeling. I think you're right in that the EVH is larger. The width I thought was the same but the back shape is not thin, its also not huge. My Jackson PC1 has bigger neck on it.

I thought the EVH had the asymmetrical neck profile like the Wolfgang?

I love them. I just can't see taking an iconic paintjob like that onstage.

IMO they ruined the PC1 with that big neck and should have kept the older profile

So are they just taking a regular Charvel and slapping the EVH name on it, some paint and or graphics and charging $3000 for them?

They are CS models from what I understand and better built than the USA production ones. I am glad I like the cheaper ones though :D

No, these were actual custom shop pieces, not production models. They came out after the reissue bullseye/lightening bolt and 25th Ann. models...well before custom shop stratheads were made available.
Like a lot of the early custom shop stuff, there were more QC issues than one would expect for a guitar of that caliber...mostly paint and fretwork. That said, all of the EVH Art Series guitars that I have come across were well made and played/sounded great. I would call the neck a medium C profile...very comfortable IMO.

I don't know about all that asymmetrical stuff. I just know the neck feels really good.

I agree about taking it on-stage. I am not that good to do that. I just liked how it plays and sounds. I use it for rehearsals and jams all the time. I also didn't pay anywhere near 3K for it. I had a problem with my first one where the neck warped and got a new guitar. The one I have now has been fine.

The production models are made by Fender line employees, the CS consists of some of the original Charvel employees from the 80s. I have not played any of the EVH's, but I can say there is a big difference IMO between the pro mods and custom shop Charvels that I have played or owned. Enough to justify the price differences between the two lines.

thanks for the info dudes .... i stumbled across a peavey wolfgang standard in black on ebay so i bought it instead .... for 700 bucks you cant beat it. it does have a ding in it down by the input jack from where it was dropped, but i couldnt find anything else wrong with it, so i took a gamble  . if anything iwill put all the parts on a wolfgang special body i have around here somewhere

Let us know how you like the neck and pickups on the Wolfgang.

sure thing. i have owned a lot of the wolfgang specials and they are fun to play. the pickups are the same i think and absolutely scream. i am curious to see how this birdseye neck is ... the special's neck is nice and smooth so this one should be better hopefully :D

I've always wanted one but the price tag kept me from getting one. Great guitars
