EVH Stealth 50w 6L6

Fender handled this amp's marketing really poorly I think. There was absolutely zero publicity for it except for some NAMM videos where they happened to plug into it because it happened to be sitting around while 99% of the camera time and conversation was devoted to new EVH FrankenStrat reissues.

I would love to watch a good A/B comparison video of the original 6L6 50w compared to the the Stealth 50w that goes through all the channels at various settings with different guitars.

I actually own the concentric-pot 50w 6L6 head and the 100w Stealth as well. If anybody wants to send me a 50w Stealth, I'll be happy to make clips comparing all 3. :)

Just for a quick derail on this topic, how do you like the 50w regular vs. 100wS? Pro and cons of each?

I just picked up a JJ Jr a few week ago but still want some version of a 6505+ / 5153 on the shelf again. So there is a Stealth version for sale around here someplace? Hmmm...

I couldn't find in on TGP?? Searched on EVH and then Stealth. Hmmmmm.

I just got back from playing this amp. It's been a while since I had my Gen1 EVH 5153 50w.

My positive take: I do think despite that they are good lower-ish volume amps, they need some juice. Plenty of gain for hard rock ala Tool and AIC in the blue Channel" beefy and no boost needed for me for those levels of gain and grunt. I could definitely hear less of that EVH 5153 mid-honk; I can see why folks say that's been 'adjusted' or 'corrected'. Green was pretty cool for solid clean to barely dirty with Gain all the way up. Red was surprisingly quiet!! And Red was fun as always.

My gripe: There was 'sparkly', some refer to it as 'brittle', thing that I really could not dial out. Maybe it was the amp in combo with the speakers, but I'm pretty sure it was the amp.

If you have played Friedmans, think of it as the Voice switch that adds that 'sparkly' brightness, but you can dial it or have it be less with the 3 way Voice switch on the Friedmans. ...It's THAT 'sparkly' thing. I'm sure since I was playing it at lower volumes, I noticed it more. At higher volumes and in a mix, it wouldn't bother you, I don't think.

Anyway... I'm looking for something to replace my JJ100 and this wasn't it. But I had a LOT of fun playing the 50S. Just a great hard tock and metal amp that needs no boost (for me) and put a smile on my face overall.

Cheers.

He's back

Tempted.

He's got 40 positive feedback.....

Yeah, I was looking at the guy's who responded. Looks he did get shady with somebody though.

I'm going to feel him out, and if legit, take it.

I messaged him and he did not reply. I said I’d buy when he priced at $1050. Now it’s at $900. Lol after a day and a half, I left the conversation and blocked replies. I don’t need the headache of dealing with someone who can’t be bothered.

He does have a lot of positive but the negative guy says worst transaction ever or something like that. He’s probably not good with communication.

I messaged him, and he got right back. I'm still debating, as some of these red flags are somewhat discouraging..

I have to move and the half-stack must go. I'm looking for something like this, and a 1x12 cabinet. I figure if I can get louder at some point, I'd add a second 1x12, and still have a head with some juice to spare.
