That's a DiMarzio AT-1 and it kills.

Is there anything wrong with the EVH Frankenstein PU that comes with the guitar?

I only bought the neck and body from The Stratosphere, so I never had the stock pickup. But I didn't want a black pickup in there anyway and they don't make an EVH Frankenstein pup in white.

What is the body wood on these ? Basswood or Alder ? I wouldn't buy a basswood guitar personally...

They're all basswood.

It's strange that Eddie is a basswood freak now a days, since his early guitars were Ash or Alder.

I'd much rather have an alder body.

I have 2 basswood guitars & they sound kinda lifeless to me.

And I'd rather have Ash, as the black/white and black/yellow were...and the red/white/black Frankie.

I'm not sure what Eddie's facination is with Basswood now a days, as everything he plays is Basswood, but I guess that's where his head/ears are at now a days.

His current guitar & PU set up is so far away from the vintage VH days.

It's actually a Wolfgang pickup, not the Frankenstein model

I was a little skeptical with the basswood myself, but it sounds very good!

Here's the video I did last year with the Circles guitar..

I have a half dozen crop circles ones that are factory B stock with minor finish flaws if anyone wants a discounted new one. :D

But Al, anything you touch sounds vintage VH good. It doesn't count when you're playing. ;)

That's because Al knows how to play like that AND Al knows how to put together the right gear to get those sounds. It's not like he's nailing Van Halen tones with a Gibson 175 into a Roland Jazz Chorus. :) he is using a guitar designed by Eddie with a pickup designed by Eddie into an amp that is inspired by the same era as Eddie's amp was from.

I don't know about that. I think Al could play a Mosrite through a Supro & sound like vintage VH.

Are you willing to customize and take pics against a piss stained wall while wearing your kid's skater sneakers? A man has to have his standards you know. Wish I had another 1984 Floyd laying around but I do not.

Of course. I insist on wearing pants this time. Guess who has 1984 Floyds?

One of my favorite guitars now. Fit and finish is great. Intonation was spot on when I got it. It's a fun guitar to play and a steal (IMHO).

Damn! There is so much greatness in this photo. So sweet.

And yeah, action, intonation, overall set up was great right out of the box on mine. Didn't have to touch a thing. No issues with frets ends like mentioned above. Guitar was just great in every way.

Many times in the past, I have been guilty of being a cork sniffer when it comes to gear. I did not want to own a guitar that says "Made in Mexico" on the back of it. But when I picked one up, I could not resist. The damn thing just played and sounded so good!! I just had to have it.

You are like a Waldorf Astoria high dollar gentlemen's escort my friend, nothing is left on the table to please the men in your life. If only the rest of the philistines here would have your number on speed dial for tonal pleasures.

I just ordered 14 hangers for the new anti Buffalo Bill mancave so I may have to get one more, I have to have a crop circle next to the bubble bee and three other Charvels. Funny but I have been playing a $400 1990s USA Hamer Diablo lately, Brazilian rosewood forum cred for next to nothing and handmade   Jol is such a guitar building legend; he is in Connecticut and I always think about crashing his workshop when I go skiing with the runt around New Hartford. It is sad to see the old Hamer factory when I drive by it along the Farmington River.

Hope all is well with the family except for your cock extension Bavarian Manure Wagon............
