Thought this was pretty cool and simply explained, and to mine untrained ears he nailed it.

It lacks the number one character that made his tone what it is - a marshall being a marshall. On the brink of destruction at that. He dimed the whole damn amp to 10. Was extremely picky with the pickup that he used unlike this guy. EQ's were involved - not just mimicing the studio recording process.
There is only one user here who IMHO got the absolute closest EVH tone i have ever known - bmf5150![]()
