Aren't a lot of those leads also pieced together from different takes? Some were straight through yes but you can hear where there are punch ins. so sometimes that magic is the result of a fantastic producer and that doesn't get mentioned enough when reviewing the greats. There are some guys however who could nail it all the way through.. guys like YJM, you listen to those isolated and holy smokes, the dude just ripped the whole solo and walked away for a smoke.
