Some tweaking? Small tweaks or taking the neck off and shimming kinda thing? I'm curious. I've had two..and play one at the local mom and pop. Awesome neck, roasted maple...but MF I can't get it to stay in tune.I bought 2 matte Wolfgang standards recently. I love them. Matte bodies are smooth, roasted maple necks are slick. They took some work to dial them in, but play and sound great now after some tweaking.
I don't love that they have the Floyd Special instead of the 1000 series, but the body contours are worth it. I couldnt play the previous versions of the Wolfgangs or Specials because I can't deal with flat tops with no contours or archtops. The body contours on these make them so comfortable.
The first one, an Army Drab was worse. I had to fix an electronic issue, and I did loosen the neck and straighten it slightly because the strings would pull off the bottom of the neck easily. I blocked the trem and installed a D-Tuna. I raised the pickups. Once I blocked the trem and put on new strings, the tuning has been stable. Some tweaking? I like the pickups in these, surprisingly. They are kind of like a toned down Dimarzio Tone Zone / Air Norton set. I am pretty happy with them, once I got the heights set. I have tons of Duncans, Dimarzios, EMGs, and Fishmans in various guitars, and feel like these fit right in.I snagged it. Traded a parts-caster for it [a nice one].
Normally a rosewood/ebony FB guy but this one is pretty cool.
All the CNC millwork is spot-on.
25.5 scale.
12 to 16 compound radius.
Neck is like a chunky Fender C but flatter.
Basswood w/a quilt maple top.
Will probably replace the pups with SH-5 & 59 at some point.
Snappy guitar, plays really nice.
Tore down the Floyd and installed Big Brass.
For a smaller body its resonant as a MoFo.
I can relate to that. They don’t feel like guitars, they feel like toys in the shape of guitars. I’ve played a few that were like that - but most weren’t that great sounding to begin with.I bought a Wolfgang Special in Ice Blue Metallic a year or so ago and returned it.
I wanted to keep it. I loved everything about it but the way it resonated in my hands. It just had this cheap and plasticy sounding resonance that I couldn't ignore. Shame, because otherwise the fit and finish was great, and it even sounded really good plugged in. But having it in my hands, playing it and feeling it vibrate, it was all wrong.
