the MIM's are/were spectacular looking...i couldn't keep mine in tune x2. shame, cause they are fun as hell to play.

i'll still end up with one before it's over. just sayin

I bought 2 matte Wolfgang standards recently. I love them. Matte bodies are smooth, roasted maple necks are slick. They took some work to dial them in, but play and sound great now after some tweaking.

I don't love that they have the Floyd Special instead of the 1000 series, but the body contours are worth it. I couldnt play the previous versions of the Wolfgangs or Specials because I can't deal with flat tops with no contours or archtops. The body contours on these make them so comfortable.

Some tweaking? Small tweaks or taking the neck off and shimming kinda thing? I'm curious. I've had two..and play one at the local mom and pop. Awesome neck, roasted maple...but MF I can't get it to stay in tune.

I got the flat black one with the roasted maple neck. For $499 I could not pass it up. It took some dialing in - action, intonation, etc. The pickups and hardware are lame and cheap. But it's still a lot of guitar for the money. I took it to my folks' house, so I have something to play when visiting them. If it were going into my band gear rotation, it would get new pickups, new tuners and a real OFR. But it's great for couch plinking. Unplugged it really has great tone, resonance and volume. It rivals an acoustic guitar.

The first one, an Army Drab was worse. I had to fix an electronic issue, and I did loosen the neck and straighten it slightly because the strings would pull off the bottom of the neck easily. I blocked the trem and installed a D-Tuna. I raised the pickups. Once I blocked the trem and put on new strings, the tuning has been stable.

The second one, a Matte Black, was much better off. I just had to screw in the string retainer bar some, block the trem, and install a D-tuna.

And BTW, nothing comes close to the real EBMM EVHs. Nothing. Flame away.

Nope but I’ve got a peavey standard!

I took the neck off of this one and angled it to get the trem to sit correctly with the body. After fixing the pickup height it’s killer.

I snagged it. Traded a parts-caster for it [a nice one].
Normally a rosewood/ebony FB guy but this one is pretty cool.
All the CNC millwork is spot-on.
25.5 scale.
12 to 16 compound radius.
Neck is like a chunky Fender C but flatter. Very comfortable.
Basswood w/a quilt maple veneer on 1/4 inch maple top.
Stock Wolfgang pups are better than most stock. Wax potted. Decent for now.
May replace the bridge pup at some point.
Youtube videos say standard neck pup sizes need slight modification.
Not replacing that anyway.
middle position [both pups] sound Yuge !
Snappy guitar, plays really nice.
Fit & finish is pretty much flawless.
Tore down the Floyd and installed Big Brass.
For a smaller body its resonant as a MoFo.
Excellent guitars for the price and you're getting 40 years of Ed's culmination/experience @ a working mans price.

Will probably replace the pups with SH-5 & 59 at some point.

I like the pickups in these, surprisingly. They are kind of like a toned down Dimarzio Tone Zone / Air Norton set. I am pretty happy with them, once I got the heights set. I have tons of Duncans, Dimarzios, EMGs, and Fishmans in various guitars, and feel like these fit right in.

I bought a Wolfgang Special in Ice Blue Metallic a year or so ago and returned it.

I wanted to keep it. I loved everything about it but the way it resonated in my hands. It just had this cheap and plasticy sounding resonance that I couldn't ignore. Shame, because otherwise the fit and finish was great, and it even sounded really good plugged in. But having it in my hands, playing it and feeling it vibrate, it was all wrong.

I can relate to that. They don’t feel like guitars, they feel like toys in the shape of guitars. I’ve played a few that were like that - but most weren’t that great sounding to begin with.

I wouldn't say mine didn't feel like a real guitar. It felt great. I loved the way it felt actually. Maybe it was a tiny bit small for my frame but I didn't care about that.

Actually if I could find an EVH Wolfgang that resonated right, I'd happily buy it. I just haven't found one that happens to resonate well just yet in a decent color, hah.

My emerald green one doesn’t resonate as well as my purple special I once owned, but I’m not going to find many emerald green peavey Wolfgang’s to begin with to be honest, so it’s a fair compromise.
