I'm still debating between EVH50w, Splawn Competition, and Splawn Quickrod.

If I bought the splawn, I think I would buy it new because then I can customize the appearance. If you are the original owner dont they have a lifetime warranty?

how do the splawn competition and quick rod play with greenbacks? when i tested out the quickrod in the store, it was thru a splawn cabinet that i wasnt super impressed by but didnt hate

The Splawn Competition is one of the best amps I have ever heard!

Both are great amps. I went with the 5153 because it had a better clean channel.

Some 5153 down tuned stuff..

The splawn quick rod would easily come out the winner between the two. Also, as I stated yesterday, the 6505, imo, would be a very strong rival to that friedman butterface amp that the spoiled rich kid, rezafagitz demoed

Good friend of mine went from a Bogner Shiva, to a 5153 50watt, to a Quickrod. Quickrod is easily the best sounding out of those three to my ears and his (for his style of playing at least). Straight up hard rock with an 80's lead influence, so the Splawn was more or less built for just that. Plus at under $2k new, it's the best in it's price point for what you get out of it.

^It was built for more than just 80's hard rock. Just ask Chris Peeler and Adam Dutkiewicz/Joel Stroetzel.

You bumped a 3 and half year old thread to say that?

This is an old thread, yet I really LIKE the options on the 2016 Splawn QR. OLD/NEW switch, half power, B+ switch, great clean channel...it has everything for under $2000.

Plus Scott is truly a great guy to deal with. Excellent customer service. Never heard a complaint, or at least one that didn't get taken care of quickly. Shit happens, however Scott will take care of his customers, period.

I have an older QR from 2006, it's got something...just not the "better" loop or " better" clean. So, I had to grab a 2014 B+ QR. Better loop, better clean channel. I suppose I could sell both and get an updated 2016 version, but what the hell. They're just great amps.

Is the loop different? I thought the only difference was the loop volume pot. I think the loop on my Splawn is the best of all my amps.

not quite, but from a certain point of view, sure, sounds reasonable.

The "better" loop came along around the same time as the "better" clean channel. I can't be 100% sure yet I think around 2012-2013, maybe?

Honestly, better is a bad word to use. Scott simply heard complaints about the loop and made it more transparent and added the volume on the send. Excellent improvements in my opinion.
The clean channel "improvement" was again in response to user outcry. However, many people enjoyed the "older" clean channel just fine.

My 2006 QR has the older clean channel and less transparent loop. Yet it has something that just kills also. Get that puppy cranking and it's awesome.

Anyway, sorry if I caused confusion. I bought myself the 2014 QR to have he B+ option as well as the "upgraded" loop and clean channel. Couldn't be happier...I just keep considering a 2016 to replace the 2 with 1 that's all.
