Just wondering if any of you guy have tried or use these speakers (specifically with a herbert if possible) and what you think of them? I'm thinking that might be a good idea for a 2x12 to easily manage the herby's 180 Watts :P

I can't really help you with the EVMs, but I've been using my Herbert with a 2x12 with V30 a lot. Unlless you're playing stadiums without PA you will most likely not run into problems. When talking 1x12 the EVM might be one of your few options though.

Ah ok, well thanks for the 2x12 advice, cause I was worried they had to be over 180 watts, I never usually need too play too loud so that's cool to know that two v30s will be enough. Out of interest if I did turn it up too loud on a 2x12 would it damage the amp or the cab or both?
Also keep any EVM12L opinions coming as i've heard good things.

Hold that thought for a couple more weeks. I have a Mills Acoustic being built as we speak and with the EVM BL's.

Steve, do not tempt me, i'm already drawing up plans to tint the windows on my landcruiser and pay you a little visit in the middle of the night... On second thoughts I may need a pickup truck!

Interesting bump... I'm talking to Dave and the crew at Mills right now too about a 212B. Just wondering what to load it with. I find it interesting that on their website, they use the inverse logic as similar to home audio and A/V systems whereby a clean signal should be amplified through a source GREATER than the load. For instance, when I was setting up my home theatre through a Pioneer Elite amp, each channel was 60W, the dude recommended 40W speakers. For my sound room, 200W per channel, speakers are 160W. Hmmmmmmm. So then I look at EVM's site and they're saying the same thing - if ya have a 100W amp, get about 60W of load. Now, to me, in the case of truly raw guitar amp power, this makes NO sense to me...because we "do" dime our gear, and we've all seen what happens when too much source goes into not enough load:

There's a tonne of them, but the bottom line, I've never seen a speaker get blown by a source LESS than its rating/load impedance, so what's the deal with stuffing speakers 50% to 60% the MAX continuous rating of an amp into a cabinet all about??

Perhaps the pro's can chime in here...

Once you play your Herbert through EVM12Ls or EVM12L BLs, v30s reputation will permanently be damaged. I can't begin or end telling you how much ass they kick with Herbert particularly & never sound bad with any amp head. Your excitement will double once you get on a stage with them. EVMs are so much more on stage than they are in studio or home playing.

With that said, IMO, 4 BL EVMs are overkill, unless you play on big stages. I'd go with X pattern with something else. Did I mention they are too heavy?

For a 2x12 one classic & one black label should be fine in any situation. Shit, I hook up my BL to my bass rig as an extension cabinet. I wouldn't recommend doing this to anyone else though.

The 2 BL's are going in a 2x12 extension cab. Having a 4x12 straight built with 2-V30's and 2-CL80's in an X. It would surely be overkill for 4x12 with BL's, not to mention a nut busting cab to tote around. I would be singing soprano then!

Haha, aight thanks for the opinions. You said that thye sound amazing on stage but are they just as good at bedroom levels?

I know this thread is a bit old, but to the OP..... Last night, I played a jvm410h through a marshall cab with v30s and evm 12l's , x pattern style, and it was the best thing Ive ever heard. K bye.

Played it at bedroom level too....

slightly off topic from the black labels, but i used to play through delta pros which are very similar, thing is in the cab the speakers alone were like 70 lbs, so it was altogether a ridiculous thing, i think that particular cabinet left the house once

so idk, yeah i want one mills with black labels, but it seems ridiculously superfluous for my needs,

needs vs wants, every player problems, if you catch me?!

regards

Thanks guys, appreciate the feedback. They are still a consideration so even though it's an old thread it was still helpful! ;)

Played a marshall cab with those and 2 v 30s in a X pattern style. sounded sex.

It is old but I use Eminences version (Delta Pro A) in a 2x12 FL sealed back cab with a 100W Einstein.
I agree with Nbarts they kick ass on stage very true and responsive to your eq settings.
FWIW I switch between those and another FL cab with G12-65's when I want a little celestion speaker color/favor in my tone.

Wow! This is kind of an old thread. But, FWIW I have a 4x12 with all EVM12L BL's and it does sound awesome with the Herbert. And boy do they move some air!

g12k100's over the bl's and this is a pretty old thread Eot lol

I know right!?!  Just thought I'd put it out there that the BL's sound pretty boss with pretty much anything actually. Although I've been using g12k100's with my Herbert lately. Those German FL's are awesome!

The BL's absolutely crush with a triple rec though. Pat O'Brien is on to something there

bls are my favorite for high gainers, hands down. Have the bottom end.
