Expensive Instrument Cable Snake Oil

Everyone knows there is a correlation between expensive cables and tone. Unless you buy the most expensive cables you can never truly achieve good tone. When I hear someone who says they have mastered epic tones, and I hear what they play, within a split second I know it’s their cheap cables. There is a Tesla cable coming out designed by a powerful tone AI. It has to be specially built in a particle accelerator to achieve True Tone. The atoms are smashed as the signal hits the cable delivering powerful and
Complex tones, overtones, harmonics and pure glory: I’m told everyone that’s heard it has broken down as they were so overwhelmed by the sheet majesty of the guitar tones they heard. It’s fairly expensive at $67,000 per foot but TOTALLY worth it. Doesn’t even matter what you play, the second a note sounds all around throw themselves to the ground and shriek that you are the greatest to ever do it. The correlation between price, cables and tone is truth.

P(2)/C(lxg)•{Tx(A/C/S} = the truth

Do I need a permit to own that?

Not sure what got into me but I bought a Mogami Platinum 12 foot cable that arrived today. I am 100% looking for a reason to return it - even at a discount price it’s very expensive. But god dammit it does sound great. Compared to the lava cables I’ve been using for many years- it’s like a little cloud has been listed off the tone. It’s not a massive difference that your casual listener would likely notice and is probably the most obvious when you’re the one playing. But I just went back and forth about 20 times and damn if that Mogami doesn’t sound more present and alive. Time will tell if that is something I want in my tone, but initial tests have my wallet a little annoyed. I’m curious to try a Gold next to it. We shall see. YMMV
How does the playing feel differ?

It’s all an illusion due to increased high end/presence but I don’t feel the need to dig in quite so much to get what I want to hear so it tricks my brain a little into thinking it feels faster
No. They do indeed feel and sound different. ;) The question is if you can put in on tape...

Monster cable rep came to the store I was working at. He asked me what cables we used. I showed him and plugged in a guitar. Sounded fine. Then he said "Now try one of ours". Holy moley, Batman. It made a BIG difference. Just like @VonBonfire said, it was like taking a blanket off the speakers.

Since '98, I've used DiMarzio cables. They sound really good, and I've never had one fail. DiMarzio quality is fantastic and when I find quality, I stick with it. That's why I use Everly B-52 and D'Addario strings as well. They always deliver great products IME.

Lol...... okay...... here's one from a while back when I got my 2nd 59 Epi using a Boss Katana Artist straight in no pedals or nothing :dunno:

I thoroughly enjoyed that.

That said, i want you to pack up your patch cables and take your ass back to the gear page.

If i ever meet you in person, i am going to throw a lot of shoulder into the right cross out of respect for your tone

I like a cord that has a kill switch so you don't buzz the fuck out of the room when you pop it out..
I also have regular cords that are 30 years old I'm using right now..
Can't tell the difference between them, so it's what makes you feel good I guess..
I can hear a difference between a buffered and a full bypass pedal, so my ears aren't fried..

Matt has those. I always forget that is a thing

dammit, I hesitated opening this thread, because I knew it was gonna cost me money. I've been using the lava stuff for about 15 years, and just looked up the SOAR at 29pF for my instrument cables, with 25pF/ft Ultramafic for my board. I got used to dialing in my amps with that, and can tell a difference when trying to use something else. Now that I know there is better though...

Bestronics cables have just slightly higher capacitance than the Mogami Platinum and less than Gold. Price wise, no contest. I buy all my cables from them.

Matt do you know if they do custom 1/4" snakes?

I need a (at least 20') 3 TS/3TRS quarter inch snake for my live rig/board and the quotes I've gotten so far have been ludicrous even for cheap cabling.

“Better” might be worse for your rig though man. More high end may not be a good thing

I know exactly what you mean man, that's why I added the caveat for "dialing it in for my amps". You can't post stuff like this, and not expect the guitar players brain to say "more is more!"

You got a picture of that? I'm wondering if it's just a TRRS, but I haven't dug very far.

No, a snake, with 3 TRS and 3 TS quarter inch jacks on each end. not a trrs cable
