I don't know why its so hard for them to understand the grading scale for guitars. If you list something as "mint" it means no dings, dents scratches etc right? Then if you also state in your ad that it has no dings dents or scatches, it better come in that way right? Atleast thats what I expect when I buy it. Just got in my 98 Les Paul Double cutaway Standard Plus top in Jalapeño Green which was listed as mint, he also went on to say it had no dings dents scratches and never played it. I've been wanting one of these since high school when a friend of mines parents bought him one for a graduation present. I occasionally check to see if there are any green ones up in mint condition(because I won't buy in any other condition)

Thing comes in loose in an oversized cardboard box with NO packing...that was my first clue that this was going to be one of those deals... Open it up and Im greeted to quite a few dings to the headstock, neck and edge of body. Flip it over to playwear on the back. What the fuck is wrong with people? Its a nice guitar but not what I though I was getting. Now Im going to have to contact the guy, probably go back and forth, file a claim and end up footing the bill back to him. A complete waste of my time...

End of rant...sorry Im just pissed. Im always honest and up front when I list my stuff and expect people to be the same

Open a dispute. They seller is responsible for the return shipping fees if they didn't describe it correctly.

How did his feedback look like?

I am like you, my preference is to buy (and sell) mint meaning exactly what you described. So far I have been lucky.

Hope everything gets resolved soon.

This is correct, part of eBay's Buyer Protection. I can relate to the OP's frustration, some people are just fucking stupid. I've sold many guitars in my lifetime and have never failed to accurately describe the condition...which in turn, never had a buyer complain. I have on the other hand received guitars that were not as described, which totally pisses me off. Just because they know they're likely to lose a little money due to the condition, some think they can get by just not bringing it up. I call'em down on it every time. :gethim: If I were you, I'd totally send it back and not accept any type of partial refund. eBay has it set up so that the seller must refund the purchase price - original shipping charges - and the return shipping charges when the item is not as described. Let that lying bastard take the hit. Fuck him, he deserves it!

This is a pretty clear statement.....
A: these is no marks its a reflection it is in mint condition it was never even played bought it for the man cave but never learned to play it no dents or dings at all thanks for asking

That being said......I'm always a bit leery of buying a guitar or amp and trusting someone to ship it to me properly, that admits they aren't a player. People that don't obsess about gear the way "we" do are just oblivious to the stuff that we consider common knowledge or common sense, when it comes to instruments. I'm not defending the guy in any way and I do hope you get this resolved to your liking.

the only thing you could see in his pics were a few very light pic scrapes. As long as the rest was being described accurately I figured i could just buff that crap out. The pic of the tip of the headstock should be enough for eBay to rule in favour of me, especially since he specifically mentions NO dings lol. Its just a pain in the ass and a waste of my time, especially since I skipped out on another Nice Gibson that was more expensive(was trying to be cheap) and now I have to wait for my damn money. Unless the guy wants to refund $650, its going back

I totally agree that guitar is not mint. For sure. $650.00 not mint? I'm not sure about that. Just my opinion and let me be clear......It's your right to demand mint gear if someone describes it as such, but I personally cant allow myself to get emotionally worked into a frenzy about a guitar that I'm buying used that has obviously been played. Those scratches that were visible in the eBay pics were a dead giveaway. Maybe this guy didn't play the guitar, but SOMEBODY did. See if he will give you something for your disappointment and play that thing! That's what its all about. Hopefully it plays good and sounds good?

lol, I KNOW he's not going to refund $650. I was basically implying its going back and Im going to go with the other Gibson I was looking at  I WILL say, I forgot how good those Gibson 496 and 498 pups sounded

That be the one. And here's the "mint" guitar he sent me

dear god!!! that thing is so far from mint its crazy!! you have every right to be pissed man!! I would be pissed if I got that and it was supposed to be mint. he even said down below in the ad he got it for his man cave and it didn't have any marks on it. what a total dick!!

Well, did you get a fair market price on that guitar? Or did you get a hell of a deal? If it were me I would weigh out the price I paid versus what it is actually worth in said condition. Either way yes file a claim on that guy for false advertising, but if you are going to gig with it and put similar markings on it yourself over time, it may not be worth the hassle of a dispute, especially if you got a really good deal on it. Case in point, I got a pair of 1977 G12M Blackbacks, and were packaged poorly - just zip tied the two speakers together and tossed them in a non padded box - and the end result was the plastic covers were both cracked, and a small portion of one of the magnets was chipped off. They still functioned well and sound awesome, but I didn't fight it much because I got a killer deal on them and I was ok with their condition versus price I paid. Just my opinion, though.

I paid $1100 which is around the price of a mint one. The blue book has the value of it in this condition as around $675( had my friends shop grade it and look it up on blue book) Now I know blue book isn't the be all of guitar values as you have to account for market price etc etc, but going by that not a fair price in this condition. Like I said, Im just going to get my money back and buy the Axcess that I had in my hands the other day so I already know what to expect

Looks like he was definitely trying to get top dollar, listing a 20+/- year old guitar as MINT. I'd be pretty ticked off about it. Ask for some money back for all the dents, dings, paint wear and gouges on the back of the neck.

Well, no hassle from the seller. He accepted the return without question. Just curious why I have to wait up to 6 days AFTER he receives the guitar to get my money back. Doesn't really make any sense to me but what ever. Im shipping it back in his packaging the exact way it came to me, loose in the cardboard box with no packing material

I would listed it in "good condition "
And point out the nicks and blems. That's a few hundred dollars in price range for sure.
Hope it works out for you man.

You could easily see in the auction pics that the instrument was far from 'mint'. With a seller name of bmxchamp, and the fact that all his other sales are of bicycle parts, a normal person would have instantly been on high alert and very cautious with the purchase. Anyway, it should be no problem getting your money back. A hassle, but not a problem.

Holy shit. I would snap and lose it. I had a guy sell me a Jackson a few years ago that the guy said was "all original" and in "great" condition. He didn't mention that the pickups had been pulled out and replaced with cheap stock Ibanez pickups and that the strap buttons had come out and then redrilled. Ebay did nothing for me at all on it either. Luckily I had a friend that wanted the guitar as is for what I paid.
