f*cking Ebay sellers

That isn't at all as described and what a douche for packing it poorly. Seriously, if you are going to ship a nice guitar, at least pack it properly.

I mean it is a '98 right? I'm not that surprised.

I am sorry that you were mislead. Hope you get it figured out

Packing any guitar poorly, nevermind a guitar like that is a real shithead move. I have only had a similar experience with a pedal but the seller refunded me and then also told me to keep the pedal which was nice. If you wanna keep the guitar you should be given a partial refund but I am not sure how Ebay works with that. I stopped using ebay years ago and moved over to reverb for music stuff and amazon for other stuff. A lot of people are doing the same.

Blue Book... Lol...

Means NOTHING. eBay is what sets the market, like it or not.

Well, no hassle from the seller. He accepted the return without question. Just curious why I have to wait up to 6 days AFTER he receives the guitar to get my money back. Doesn't really make any sense to me but what ever. Im shipping it back in his packaging the exact way it came to me, loose in the cardboard box with no packing material

I would ask why there is a 6 day wait after he receives it. that seems a bit odd. try telling him you don't accept those terms.

(looking at the ebay auction) One of the things I've learned over the years - if the seller types the ad using all caps, look elsewhere.
Those deals rarely went smoothly.

If a guitar has been plugged in and strapped, it isn't mint. I would never list one as mint anyway, just to avoid this type of disappointment. It was definitely misrepresented and you do have a case.

Anyone that types in all caps has problems in my opinion

Yeah , I totally feel you on the "Mint" subject. I used to buy and sell on Ebay a lot and always took a lot of pictures in the natural sunlight outside and was really transparent about the way I described the condition as well as showing all the pictures. Even scratches that didnt really even come out that well in pictures I would always say that the scratches are there so I dont consider the guitar for example to be like new but excellent condition for example with some swirl marks on the body of the guitar . I have had to return guitars that people said were mint , so frustrating and a waste of time !!!

Open a dispute. They seller is responsible for the return shipping fees if they didn't describe it correctly.

+1

Ebay always sides with the buyer, even if it was mint and never played you could say it was not as described and get a full refund. Contact the seller through Ebay's system and tell him it was not mint unplayed as described and you want t full refund including the cost to return it. If he agrees you are good to go. If not, file a dispute. I would not keep it unless he refunds you $3-400.

:gethim: If you paid for a mint guitar you should have received a mint guitar. I have had to give refunds on items that were perfectly described and received positive feedback and they still made a claim and won. So the chances of you getting money back or a full refund are very good. I can see why you are pissed that the guitar showed up the way it did. However, if you like the guitar maybe it would be worth keeping if the seller gives you some money back. If the seller is a jerk about it I would request a full refund.

The seller does not know the definition of mint as mentioned Q A section and contradicts himself in the description which albeit generic is accurate.

Used: An item that has been used previously. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended. This item may be a floor model or store return that has been used. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections.

Glad he is going to refund you. I think the delay probably is more so with eBay/PP.

As buyers we have to understand people are idiots, don't know what they are talking about or simply lying to make their item appear better than reality so they can sell it.. I've been around a long ass time, sure there are closet queens out there but not too many true mint 15-20 year old guitars from owners who put it a wall as a "man cave" piece and not learn to play it. There are collectors who do keep thing mint and in vaults but the red flag was the dude not playing...how would he know good from bad?

I would pack it securely. If something happens on the return route you might be held accountable. Not sure what the eBay policy is on that but if it got damaged on the way back due to packing issues it will create new set of issues.

thats not mint and ebay will require you to send it back or work out partial refund on ebay but its at ebay discretion whether its warranted...beware ebay screwed me on this...my advice return it for refund

Absolutely. I can't remember the last time a store used a Blue Book to value my gear. They just looked up Ebay and Reverb and used that. You just have to hope someone didn't whore the same thing out recently.

There is a shop up here that uses the Vintage Guitar price guide for stuff. He doesn't take condition into account, either, so he has beat-up guitars that should be $1500 marked at the mint $4000 price. On the flip, if something is valued WAY off in the book from real actual street value, you can get great deals.

That's so true, and I don't know exactly why.

I think it's an Ebay / paypal rule

The pics in the auction weren't great but it didn't look mint at all in them.
