Fans of WGS speakers?

I like the ET65's. Not as good as my '83 Celestion 65's though. The Invader is a great speaker too. The vet 30's are ok but somewhat bland compared to others. Few years back I found a brand new Avatar traditional 2×12 cab with Vet 30's that I got for $180. Guy was moving inside a week and dumped it for a steal. Bought all my WGS speakers years ago when they were really competitively priced.

It's funny, I'm really open to trying all sorts of things but with speakers there just rarely seems to be an occasion that Celestions aren't the best option.

I mean Fane F70's are cool, or old Jensens for some stuff but Celestion in my book is literally the voice of rock n' roll. With so many models, decent resale and how ubiquitous they are it's hard to justify investing in other options. Probably different in the US though, non-Celestion options in Australia are pretty limited and usually pricey.
Agreed.
I've used them forever and when they built the Redback, I fell in love!

I’m a speaker junkie and have 2 closets stacked floor to ceiling with loose 12”s. I’ve tried almost everything out there. Here’s my 2 cents……

Overall, I would say I am not a fan of WGS…….except for the Invader which is in my top 3 favorites ever. It’s like a cross between an M and H mag and presents all frequencies with no muddiness or harshness. Handles high gain extremely well.

Put it beside a 65 watt Creamback and it will destroy it in low end tightness, mid clarity, high presence, and overall volume.

Right now, the Invaders reside in my EVH 4x12 and Orange 2x12. I have other cabs with UK Greenbacks and Heritage G12H 75hz and I find myself plugging into the Invader cabs most of the time for Greenback flavor.

What’s strange is I hated the ET-65’s and Veteran 30’s. I prefer 25 watt Celestions to the Green Berets. And the Retro 30 is a decent high gain speaker once you knock the “out of the box” presence off.

For reference, my other favorite speakers are Redbacks and Marshall label V30’s.

Do you have any opinions on the Reaper? I agree with you on the Invader. It is my favorite speaker ever. I really like the Reaper too. The Green Beret is good as well but I don't care for the rest I have tried.

Can you compare these two specifically?
I’ve only used the Redback in a Bogner Cube so probably couldn’t give an apples to apples. But I would say the difference is mainly in the high end. I hear people say the Redback is dark and bassy…….but I don’t find it particularly bass heavy or muted. Has plenty of mids and top end bite in the Cube.

I didn’t really like the Reaper, but I don’t like most G12H speakers to begin with. A little too much bite and sizzle. Especially when turned up.

For me the Rwdback is perfect, full a d powerful from low to high. It covers the entire spectrum. It even has the feel of a light magnet speaker blended with a heavy magnet speaker. It's my go to now.
It's all I use these days. I even have a friend who is a studio musician who ended up switching to Redbacks in his primary cab and sold all his other cabs.
Man, they are killer.
