Farmikos (Joe Holmes) New Tune

I do like it, but it is not what you would expect from Joe and it is very 90ish. I do love some of the stuff from the 90s like AIC and Soundgarden, but I want to hear some killer rockin playing from Joe. It is obvious that the singer voice sounds very close to Chris Cornell's.

+1. Sounds like a mix of newer AIC with Cornell's vocals. The solo's sound like Zakk Wylde.

I kind of dig it though in a stoner / sludgy kind of way.

After listening to the two songs they have up, I will buy it. While I don't really think it is very original, I like the mix of influences. Maybe because I was in high school and college from the mid 1980's to the mid 1990's.

I was thinking the same thing as the other two previous post (before I even read them). Has a mid 90's Seattle sound to it.

I like this tune more than the first one for sure. Still though, it's extrememly derivative of 20 years ago and Joe's soloing is nothing special.

I want to hear some RR style of playing though!!!

I want to hear Joe Holmes sound like freaking Joe Holmes, playing the music he grew up on. It's weird that he recognizes the Seattle grunge thing killed the sounds that he grew up on, but he doesn't know the Seattle grunge thing died a few short years after that? Like others have said, it sounds like Soundgarden and Alice In Chains, twenty years too late.

I like it a lot. Don't get the digs on 90's rock. Some great stuff came out of that period. I'll take it along with the good stuff about the 80's. A kick-ass tune is as derivative as any other kick-ass tune. I don't care about innovation anymore, I just want someone to rock my face off. And I wish I could solo like "nothing special" like Joe here.

Yes, kind of what I meant that since Randy was part of that era and plus he took lessons from him!!! I agree with the whole Seattle sound and it did kill the music we grew up on and love so much, but I did embrace it, but never abandoned my true passion for 70/80s rock/metal!! I do not understand recreating this Soundgarden/AIC sound again especially when these two bands are still creating new music?   :

I just listened again and there are some cool parts in that solo. I take back that part a little bit. It's a good solo by a guy I have watched and heard do GREAT solos.

I went back and listened to it again. Although it is good, it is just an AIC/Soundgarden copycat sound and is not very original.

Yes, the solo is good, but not great since Joe is a bad ass guitarist!!!

This is what I posted on the Facebook page but deleted it since I met Joe a couple of times and he remembers me.

"This is the Joe Holmes that was born in 1963 and grew up in So Cal in the late 70's and early 80's? The same Joe Holmes that took guitar lessons from Randy Rhoads? The same Joe Holmes that played in Terriff, Lizzy Borden, Terriff again, David Lee Roth and Ozzy Osbournes bands? Or, is this that other Joe Holmes that was born in 1978 and grew up in Seattle?"

:D

Sounds like the later!!!      Maybe he was out of the music scene so long because he was taking guitar lessons from Kim Thayil and Jerry Cantrell!!!

It sounds good but it really does sound like Cantrell and Cornell's love child.

Sound of my Gun was too long for me... ended it and now on Scapegoat. Liking this one better. Wonder who this singer's biggest influence is?

Since we're all throwing out opinions, I'm not impressed with the recording quality of the guitar. It's obviously a great guitar tone but it's not clear and in your face, and it's not a problem of being too low in the mix. It has a graininess to it that reminds me of an entry level mic pre into an entry level interface. Same with the vocals actually. Alright, I don't care for the production at all, but it's possible the quality is dumbed way down for streaming. So, I reserve the right to change my opinion at a later date.

There was definitely some great stuff out of that period!!! AIC is one of them and they are one of my fav bands from any era!!!

Well, I dug it. Is it ground breaking? Not in the least. However, it was better than what I was expecting.

I actually like Sound of my Gun, better than Scapegoat.

Atleast it is JOE HOLMES !!!!!!!

John Holmes was the man in the 1970's and 1980's. I thought he died of AIDS though? That whole wonderland thing was F&*KED up...Good to see him back from the grave.
