nothing new but I am glad to hear new music from Joe. They should tour with Kill Devil Hill - it would be like Alice In Chains & Soundgarden touring together back in the day. Dig the the 2 songs - anxious to hear more!

The simple fact of the matter is that I am going to buy Joe's new release. This song they posted today has some cool things about it.

Part of my disappointment with this is that for YEARS I have been looking forward to this album, because I was told it had a heavy Deep Purple influence but sounded modern. That it sounded like Deep Purple with a heavier guitar tone and more crazy guitar playing. Now I imagine that sound in my head....... and in my head I get very excited at the prospect of what this could sound like. I didn't realize that:

I probably won't buy it but I agree there's some cool stuff going on and quite frankly, a different singer could have brought that into a whole different direction. The singer is very good, he just happens to have the timbre and style of someone very familiar.

Definitely didn't hear any DP in there but maybe it's somewhere else on the album.

True dat.cause all of th RT's drink the van Halen tone kook aid to emulate his vibe..no cop it,when attempting to get their sound in the song in ther head. Bob as always you expand me thoughts on opinion statements !

Not sure I'm following analogy bud.

Hmmmm. Deep Purple with heavier tone and crazier guitar playing?

The last 20 or so years have proven that that is NOT a good thing.

Love Joe Holmes, definitely has a 90's vibe imo.

He/the band may not want to be associated with pre-90's or certain time periods for whatever reason although I wish he would.

FARMIKOS is a killer band, The Sound of My Gun totally rocks hardcore. The vocals are amazing and have a kinda Jim Morrison vibe. Joe has outdone himself again, the solo is totally genius. Bet no one here can play that solo in scapegoat. Being compared to AIC, Soundgarden, and Cornell... this is a good thing... This has a new sound with an old school vibe to it. I've listened to it on my home system and it sounds well produced, Joe's guitar has that insane tone still so I love it. Overall first two songs 8.8 out of 10 and better then anything else out right now.

LOL... what?

Mark,
You are a good and loyal friend to Joe and it is cool that you support him as strongly as you do. He's fortunate to have a friend like you.

I admit I am being selfish. I want Joe to record something I want to hear and I am getting pissy that he has the audacity to do what he wants to do. ;) I would never spout off something like this if this was a thread about Kim Thayil's new band or a Jerry Cantrell solo album because this is a sound similar to what you would expect from them. However, I can assure you their fans would get pissy if they released something that sounded like it should be on Diary of a Madman or Look What The Cat Dragged In.

I have been a fan of Joe's playing for 25 years and like I said, I am being selfish wanting to hear more riffs and solos and the style that brought Joe to his level of fame in every band he was ever in. Maybe this new release will put him at a higher level than he has ever been and three guys complaining on a forum because it's not 1987 anymore won't mean squat.

'90s revival lately on RT.

It is cool. But it's really no different than playing something that mimics the '80s, or '60s, '70s. What's the point really? No one from those eras will ever be in the same place that binds music to us. So, while I think the tunes are good I get why people are so-so on it.

I really don't know...especially Scapegoat has grown on me after a half a dozen or so listens. I totally get what Chubtone is saying, it's nowhere near what one would expect from JH judging by his other body of work and the reports but on the other hand, I like me some AIC influenced r'n'r too :).

Might even buy it when it comes out!

Oh I will buy this for sure if it is available on CD or in lossless format. There is probably no debate that it is very good stuff. Hope to hear some more clips. Maybe Joe is toying with us and the rest of the CD is slighting different containing Joe's signature playing/sound?

either way I like it,,,and the fucker beat me out at the Ozzy tryouts in 94 so more power to him...:(

I didnt know i was trying out against one of my childhood idols though,,,would have saved my cassette tapes and time and had more fun smokin dope in Holly wood lol..... I like his style..

Kudos to you for having the cojones to try out for Ozzy. Cool!

I agree with the grunge comments on Gun, but I'm really digging Scapegoat. I'll probably buy it. Good to see Joe back out there.

Really cool playing; lots of attitude! VERY Soundgarden-y, but doesn't feel like a rip-off somehow. I'm not really familiar with JH's work apart from when he toured with DLR and Ozzy, so I guess I can't compare it to anything he's done before.

How did you get the audition for that? I'd be interested to hear about that whole experience!

I don't know what the bitching is about...it sounds WAY better than BLS or George Lynch's latest shit...yeah...heavy on AIC and Soundgarden and maybe a bit dated, but if he did an 80s style record people would yap about that too, so cut the guy some slack I think...sounds good to me.I'd buy it !

This is what I posted on the Facebook page but deleted it since I met Joe a couple of times and he remembers me.

"This is the Joe Holmes that was born in 1963 and grew up in So Cal in the late 70's and early 80's? The same Joe Holmes that took guitar lessons from Randy Rhoads? The same Joe Holmes that played in Terriff, Lizzy Borden, Terriff again, David Lee Roth and Ozzy Osbournes bands? Or, is this that other Joe Holmes that was born in 1978 and grew up in Seattle?"

:D

Its perfect

Cd will finally be available Jan 15th.
Interested to hear it after all the you tube teasers.
