I've been playing since 84 and I'm just so beyond glad I'm not stuck in one era of music.

So are we! I don't think your input to this forum would be nearly so valuable otherwise.

So you speak for everyone on here now. Interesting.

No, I guess I don't. I'm just disappointed you never treat us to any of your musical stylings based on not being stuck in any one era.

As far as Nirvana's music, I've always loved good hooks and thought they had some great ones. Catchy melodies are what grab me, even when there aren't guitar solos or complicated guitar rhythms.

Me too. I just felt Nirvana's hooks and melodies were not what I considered great.

Would it really have been less derivative if it was some rehashed glam metal?

For sure no. But it would have been a heavy rock/melodic metal guy playing heavy rock/melodic metal. Typical Chubtone bad analogy time, just because Michael Jordan really wanted to transition to playing major league baseball didn't mean I wanted to watch him play baseball. :D

Seems like a logical chain of influence to me. Sabbath->Ozzy->AIC/soundgarden->Farmikos. Seems like heavy rock moving fwd to me.

I see your point but I feel Ozzy's early solo stuff was definitely moving forward from the Sabbath days. I feel like AIC/Soundgarden reverted back to the early 70's Sabbath sound and Farmikos stayed there too. Just musical opinions. I don't pretend my opinion is the only right one. It's just my own.

My opinion is the right one. Please make a note of it.

Basketball to baseball??? I guess I would see it more as going from playing man to man switching up to a zone defense. Still the same game, different style.
You like what you like bottom line. I think we should all be thankful there's some new rockin music out with kick ass guitar playing on it for us to nit pick about. At least I have something to keep me from being bored out of my mind following this thread at work today!

LOL, don't question my analogies. I thought that up in 3 seconds. Yours is closer of course but less obnoxious.

Considering the points you get for a touch of obnoxiousness, your analogy is just as valid.

Ok excuse me, a touch of obnoxiousness is much appreciated.
So how did his tone on the album compare to the hyped up holy grail best ever live tone no one has heard but a handful here?

It's not even close. There are threads at Metro forum now starting where guys are trying to dissect his live rig with an early VH type fervor. His tone on this album is 4% as good as his live tone. :D

I don't know where Curt's getting his information. From what I understand Joe's tone is 23% as good as his old live tone. Where's Henning? His opinion will settle this.

BTW - H Golf, we are talking about being there in person to hear his live tone with Ozzy when we talk about this grail (live) tone. The Youtube stuff does not do it justice. It was amazing, huge - best live tone I ever heard - and he played the Randy stuff better than anyone but Randy...

Just kidding you lunatic. 9 people know who he is and you and I are 7 of them.

Keep those pictures of relic strat-like guitars coming... Love them and need to get me one of those!!

Joe's entire rig has not changed since the Ozzy days. He even mentioned having the same tubes in one of his main heads since then (that finally blew during recording). Same guitars, same pickups in them, same amps, same rack units, same pedals etc. I'm not sure about that cabs but I'd guess they're the same too, if it ain't broke don't fix it. The difference between his live tone and the Farmikos recorded tone is just that, live Vs recorded so you have a different room, different mics, EQing and mastering, but having been one of the lucky guys to see Joe with Ozzy twice I'd say it sounds damn close (granted I'm going off memories that are now 20yrs old).

I scanned this from the young guitar mag with Joe in it years ago, here's Joe's rig from the Ozzy days....

Damn... I really went for that one... :D

I've tried to really love this album but just can't. I think there's a great album in there but the songs really need to be tightened up. The solos are gratuitous at times and don't serve the song. Several of the intos and breaks need to be paired down and not beat the listener over the head with the same riff 8-10 times.
