What is 1. Your favorite clean boost pedal, and 2. your favorite OD pedal for Marshall style amps for rock, hard rock, and 90s metal.

I'm interested in OD's that don't suck bass or can EQ it back in and also just a straight up clean boost.

I am having great like with my Odd fellow pedals. The Napoleon and Caveman II are killer. I have recently picked up the Bishop and that one is great as well.

All run through the front end of my Small Box.

Boss SD-1 with C3 changed to add more low end through.

Suhr Koko Boost for everything

I've been wanting to try one of these for a while now. How does it do set as a clean boost for modern metal, thrash and death stuff? I mainly use a TS9 which I really like because it does suck the bass/flub and tighten up my amps.

With the OD1X you lose NO low end whatsoever. In fact, you can add some in.

My OCD works well in front of both my BE100 and QR.

I really only use the mid-boost side set low at about 9:00, so I really can't speak much to the clean boost side. Don't have much experience with the TS9 either.

TC Spark Boost. Cheap, transparent, and EQ options!

Or, I just go with a Boss GE-7. Adds some grit, and even more options. Sometimes, I'll run it, or an MXR 10-band in front of the Spark Booster. Gets even more devastating.

Fuck all these high end "boutique" pedals everyone gushes about. I find them a waste of money. I can buy 2, 3, or even 4 used pedals for the same price, and have total versatility to match ANY amp's boost needs, even the most finicky.

For a little more, the RC V2 is a great pedal. Loved it, but the Spark Boost was just as good for $60 used.

For flat out aggressive tone, I find nothing better than the Zakk Wylde OD in front of a Marshall-voiced amp. Just have to set it right to avoid being overly compressed. I've held on to mine over 10 years, which is a record for me.

Used to not matter so much but now that I mostly record instead of playing live, the differences have become more noticeable. So now I use a TS-9, A BD-2 and an OCD in front of my JCM-800. They all have good points and they're all different. For the classic 80's Marshall sound, the TS is hard to beat. The BD-2 is more full range and "Cleaner". It can almost be used as a clean boost if you turn the gain down. The OCD has probably the least character of the 3.
As far as a clean boost, I like the Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster.

At the moment I`m using either a Mesa Grid Slammer or SD-1 in front of my Splawns

For a straight clean boost a spark drive mini worked great in the loop

I use a Timmy or Jam Ray (Jan Ray clone) for everything on my Marshalls, Splawn, Landy and even a 2 channel dual recto...both have great eq options and sound fantastic in front of all of my amps.

I've been using a Maxon OD808 with my Quickrod for a couple of years now.

Suhr Koko Boost, Marshall Guv'nor (original) or old TS
