Fellow member help needed!

I am 48, scared as hell and need to rely on people more than ever!
So I lost my job of 27 years on the 30th! I do not know what I am good at but I have always wanted to do vocal work. I have always been told I have a great voice and timbre. I do live hockey announcing but have never done any type of say books on tape, product work or on hold type stuff. I would appreciate any help from fellow RT members if they have opportunities for me to do vocal work for your companies or know of others who might give me the opportunity to "tryout for" any work they may need done. Probably not the best place to ask but you guys and RT have been my home away from home!

As a mid-40-something, i hate to hear shit like this. It sucks when anyone loses a job, but after that amount of time, at this age...likely family and long-time friends close by, and you may likely have to relocate. All the best man...prayers, and positive mojo.

Are you ruling out working in the musical-equipment field? I would think that someone with your background and reputation would be able to find something in that sphere rather easily.

Will you be at the NAMM show? I've never been, sadly, but I have to think it would be a hot spot for networking and job-prospecting.

Sorry to hear about your job , we are all just numbers to businesses and if it makes sense to put an X beside your name, they won't hesitate. Hopefully you got some sort of package with them out the door to float you a few months?

Some good suggestions so far in the thread. Don't you also do amp mods? I know you modded one of my mts modules years ago and know your way around an amp, why not offer that as a service too? Mod an amp a month and bring in an extra 450$ or so.

Damn sorry to hear this. Don't have much of value to add, except to say that LinkedIn was how I got my last two jobs. Try to link up with recruiters there. I find that most of them call themselves "talent acquisition" nowadays. Reach out for any job postings there, and don't hesitate to contact the recruiter and ask for detail. If you are willing to relocate without the employer covering your relocation costs, this is a very important point to raise with the recruiter. Often, they'll just throw resumes or applications away if you aren't living in the right zip code.

The process will probably take a long time, so It would hurt to get a side hustle going in the meantime like Reza recommended.

some of those container homes are bad ass! NYC and LA is where the large majority of voice over work is. Like Reza said, contact all the management agencies, and give them samples/demo reel. Wish I could help you out more.
