He does have an ass that won't quit.

Seriously check into real estate as well as your voice over.
My cousin does it on the side setting his own hours pretty much and does well.
Charm goes along way my friend.

I might be able to more accurately focus the laser beam of assistance if your original post dint say " I don't know what Im good at"

I need to know what your good at!!

Well ya poorly stated.....Im good at talking! My wife says I'm always running for mayor!

go to a higher end head hunter, they go as far as to give you many different tests to see what you are good at, memory, people skills, etc. they get paid if they get you a good job/ the better and high paying the job, the more they make.

usajobs.gov

I know my step dad had hard times getting a job in Michigan.
My mom and him moved out to Arizona and he was turning down job offers.
Relocating sucks ass. But when things get rough....
Jeff serious. Apply at the post office for a carrier.
They are constantly hiring in Saginaw.
If your close to Grand Rapids better yet.

I am 48, scared as hell and need to rely on people more than ever!
So I lost my job of 27 years on the 30th! I do not know what I am good at but I have always wanted to do vocal work. I have always been told I have a great voice and timbre. I do live hockey announcing but have never done any type of say books on tape, product work or on hold type stuff. I would appreciate any help from fellow RT members if they have opportunities for me to do vocal work for your companies or know of others who might give me the opportunity to "tryout for" any work they may need done. Probably not the best place to ask but you guys and RT have been my home away from home!

Thanks for any support you all might be able to provide!
What did you do before? If you have skills outside of music, go for something stable. There is no sustainable money to be made this late in the game.

Don't feel bad about temporarily getting unemployment while you are looking. There are millions of people that take advantage of it and it is for people like you!!

Sorry you lost your job man. Could happen to any of us.

No problem spongey!

Sorry to hear.. I have nothing to add to the advice already given, but good luck.

I gotta tell you, voice over is not all it's cracked up to be anymore either. I have a friend who has been doing it for decades and just lost his biggest client to an overseas service. This is a major broadcasting service that does radio stations for Sirius. He is freaking out right now.

Why not also look into voice over for Books on Tape as well? My wife has post concussion syndrome right now and all she can do most of the time is listen to books on tape. The right voice makes a huge difference between " turn that shit off she annoys me" and " he/she is pretty good eh?". I listened to an hour last night and can confirm as I can with podcasts, that voice and manner of speaking goes a long way in terms of keeping interest.

Sorry to hear this Jeff. This kinda hits home for me - I've been working for the same company for 20+ years and we've laid off 1500 people in the past year and I feel more lay offs coming. My wife is in a similar boat.

Best of luck to you!
