Doctor Love
I've been going through all of Fender's amps, solid state and tube, looking for THE Fender amp sound and my search continues this time with the Fender 65 Princeton Reverb Reissue. It's a lot of coin for a 15 watt amp, so is this the one? I did the 68 Princeton Reverb - will the 65 be better? Will I like it more simply because it's the year of my birth? Find out if this is worth dipping into your IRA for but don't tell your spouse!
Have a great weekend, stay warm if you can and "Celebrate Mediocrity" with me!

Its a "student" amp but it really is the best one and second would be a Twin Reverb....... I love mine.

Put a 12 in it and hook it up to an SD1, RAT and a 6 Band EQ maybe some delay and it's fun for days.....

The most recorded amplifier in history and for good reason *_*

Yup also as others said..... You gotta tell everyone your secret born in 65 and still looking like a stud.....

Its gotta be Omega 3s right or Vitamin D..... Is it extra virgin olive oil right, push ups/running etc etc :)

My skin looks like I walked up and lit a cigarette off of the side of Tower 1. But I appreciate the kindness. I don't take care of myself at all but I'm going to quit smoking (again) and get more exercise now that I'm retired!

I havent played the reissue Princeton but I can tell you my 2 og 1966 Princeton reverbs will be with me till the end. They are still dead mint, with og tubes that are still going strong. I use them as reference amps to test guitars,do pedal shootouts etc, as they don't color tone at all.Just pure fender thru and thru.

I've had blackface DRRI, Vibrolux, Super Reverb, Twin, Bassman, PRRI
The PRRI is definitely the sweetest sounding of the bunch. They all have the blackface sound but there's something that makes the Princeton a little bit sweeter. Top 5 amps of all time. Pretty light too, decently loud for a 12w amp.
I'd say the Super Reverb is probably next in best blackfaces.

This all day and I agree with everything 👍

This thing still kicks ass and yeah get one while you can.....

They aren't getting any cheaper *_*

I used to a home studio full of Fender amps.

I’m down to my original ‘66 BF Princeton Reverb, ‘66 BF Pro Reverb, ‘65 BF Twin Reverb (PTP Custom Repro), and my ‘73 SF to BF Vibro Champ Piggyback conversion

My go amp before I retired from live gigging was my ‘66 BF Princeton Reverb.

Used it on stage at clubs, private corporate parties, weddings, outdoor festivals, large dancehalls, and opening acts for touring bands.

Here the Fender collection I used to have

Yeah I love the thing.....

Its pretty much like imagine being on a cloud or in the entrance of Pearly Gates..... Something like that, it's just so good and so pure *_*

It's not the best one. The Quad rev, super six rev, twin rev, super rev, deluxe rev, and vibrolux are all better amps than the kiddie practice amp. So is the tweed twin, the tweed bassman, the blonde/blackface/and drip edge bassman head. I'd rather have a bandmaster too. Or a showman. One of the few gigs I packed my stuff and went home was when they tried to supply me a princeton reverb as backline. That's against my religion.

I mean personally I like a Super Reverb or a Twin of course but it's just so nice to play these.... Vibro Kings or Vibrolux are great too.

But for me just something about a nice Princeton and its just like a cloud or heaven on Earth. They are all amazing no doubt but for me the Princeton Reverb is where it's at.

I love the bigger amps but Im just a Princeton guy :dunno:

I'm with VBF here, there's a million great fender amps, and I would put a bunch of them over the princeton. The princeton has a great clean tone and is severely limited in it's gainy applications.

It's also great at low volume home practice, but any situation that you need volume you would be better served with a DRRI because it has a big kid speaker

The princeton doesn't have the versatility the DRRI (and by extension almost every other fender amp in existence) has with higher gain tones - Best mod you can do to a princeton is switch the speaker out for a 12". That way you can squeeze some more out of it. But at that point it basically is a DRRI.

Personally I think almost every amp you mentioned has one thing that it excels at better than the rest. And therefore has a use-case where it would be the best choice for someone. Except the princeton, because anything it can do a DRRI can do better IMO

just my two cents

For anything serious the Deluxe lacks clean headroom. They sound good until the going gets loud. IME 6v6's are not a particularly reliable tube for heavy duty work.

Nah, the whole point with a deluxe is cranking it out of clean headroom for the gain tones (generally for playing old school punk or grunge) and getting it to give up the goods at a volume that works if your drummer is a bitch

If you need the clean headroom you should be looking at the big bottle amps anyways

6v6 amps can be just as reliable as anything else, it depends on the maker and the circuit - the modern fender reissues? yeah, they are poorly made and unreliable

For example though, if you bought that wizard 6v6 in the classifieds? I doubt that that would be unreliable
