Was wondering what you guys prefer of the 2 big boys.
Not talking Fender super strats but the regular 3 single coils.
Gibson can be pretty much any version.
I read and see alot of guys leaning heavy toward both sides.
Just wondering your take on the two classics.
For myself I would lean toward Gibson side of the house.

Gibson Les Pauls (but only the good ones   )

Gibson but NOT Les Pauls. I can't play 'em for shit! But give me a Gibson V and a Marshall flavored amp and I am in heaven. About to test drive some Firebirds this weekend!

I was a long time Strat guy (with Duncan Hot Rails and Lil '59) for over 18 years. Then got into Suhr's for 5 years. Now all I have is (3) Les Pauls and finally have that thick tone i'd been trying to get from strat type guitars. There are a lot of turds to filter through with Gibson, but once you find the ones for you its worth the search.

Ive been playing for 32 years and after playing a lot of other brands...i appreciate Gibson and Fender now more than ever (the good ones). Its also interesting that most touring guitar players are also playing Gibson and Fender...

Gibson explorer FTW. Dirty fingers rule. (Insert joke here) Les pauls are killers too.

If I wanted something thin and wimpy sounding,I'd rather bang a twink than play a stock strat. Tele's are kinda cool with a humbucker in the bridge, ala billy gibbons.

I'm a superstrat guy, but if we're talking the pure incarnation of each: Strats feel more like home, but LPs sound like home.

Rickenbackers are my number one; my main players are Steinbergers (which is owned by Gibson). I have an Epi John Lennon 1965 Casino, no Gibsons. Just got a Fender Jaguar - Marr Sig.

Les Pauls. For reasons I can't really explain, I simply struggle with Strats - mind you haven't really given a Tele much time - but whenever I think Gibson vs Fender, I immediately think Les Paul vs Strat, and on that notion, can't play a strat worth shit. Give me a decent Lester and it feels like "home".

Why do I like ESP Horizons?? Maybe it all comes down to me not liking bolt-on necks.

In short, good Gibsons ANY day - for me.

Explorer for me.

But Fender has done better with QC over the years.

If picking just one, probably Strat. Just feels more familiar to me.

I love LP's so much but only feel right with a strat or tele.

I like them both and many other guitars. It feels very strange sometimes going from one type to another but I know it just takes a little time to adjust and then I'm at home with it. Then again it feels strange going back but the key is to be patient and allow yourself to adjust to the differences.

I have both. I've used Strats forever. My first guitar as a kid was a Les Paul copy. Loved that guitar. I only purchased my Les Pauls in the last couple of years and am so glad I did.

So thin and wimpy, this guy was obviously fucking twinks while he was playing.

I mean I see this, and wimpy is the first thing that comes to mind...

It sure didn't hurt Hendrix to have his Plexi amps on 10. Clearly there's a lot of variation with the entire rig from amp to guitar and speaker cabs and whatnot. Compared to Les Pauls though Strats are the thin one's. Well, good LP's that is. There's lot of wasted lumber out there with Gibson on the headstock.

It is true though, most other singlecut style guitars just don't match up well to LP's. Sure, I know I've said a lot on the subject but most of the time if you compare a PRS SC58 to a decent LP the Gibson usually sounds better. I'm not sure why this is since it isn't rocket science.

Neither.

There's much better guitar builders out there that will and can make a far superior guitar than these two commercial jokes

And to add in the acoustic area, Martin and Guild are a joke.
