I'm not sure, and I'll have to check later. Pretty sure they are completely sealed. They remind me a lot of the Ibanez IBZ Roadstar pickups in the 1980s, but the tone is better than what I had with those. It's hard to describe the tone, but it just sounds perfect with a high gain amp.
