I've finally finished recording my new bands EP, here is the highlight track. Im on vocals on the tracks as we are still trying to find a singer, last piece of the puzzle!

The signal chain for dirty was Guitar -> TS808 -> JMP-1 -> Focusrite 18i20

The signal chain for clean was Guitar -> Gallien Kreuger 250ML -> SM57 -> Focusrite 18i20

The Synths are the Roland Super JV1080

The Bass was direct in and then the Clean Bass patch on Guitar Rig 5

Drums where re-sampled using Steven Slate (as I live in an apartment and only have an electric kit)

Guitars used: Jackson Solist, Charvel Sol-Cal with sustainer, Epiphone LesPaul Standard, Fender MIJ 72 reissue

Interested to know everyone opinions!

I listened to the one track you linked and I think you did a great job putting the song together and overall I thought it sounded good. I'm thinking you like 80s music... although I'm not really sure ;)

Props to you for completing an EP!

Your singing is pretty good... you sure you want to find someone else?

Loved it.
Is the JMP-1 recorded with the emulated out or you added IR cabs in the DAW?

The voice is a bit too low in the mix I guess.

Just using the emulated out, people say it's crap and I see what they mean but after some tweeking at the protools end it sounds passable! haha

Dude, that sounds great! I'm always amazed by the level of talent on this forum.
Agreed on the vocals being a tad too low in the mix.

I used to have one and used the emulated to record, didn't remember being so good tho.. that's why I asked you, great grea job.
Really enjoyed the entire EP, shame for the singer so low, the guy has a great voice, should come out more.

Man I am only 1 minute into the first song and I LOVE it!!! Don't bother getting a singer. You sound really good. I would wear your bands shirt.

On the guitars, maybe try some of these free plug-ins. The TPA-1 is a tube power amp emulator. You can add 6L6/EL/34/KT88 flavors which make a HUGE difference, also they have a free cab impulse loader called NadIR.

Not saying the tones aren't good enough but when I was recording direct "pre-Kemper" these 2 free plug-ins made my guitars just sound full as all get out and not at all buzzy.

Man, on "Ridin' Highs" now. Really digging your stuff. Reminds me of stuff like H.E.A.T., Talisman, Sunstorm, The Magnificent.

The Def Leppard runs strong in you... I hear it big time in the backing vocals and the sort of "let's get rocked" vibe of "She Gave me Nothing". Your lead playing chops are also sharper now and that includes the arrangements. I dig it! Great job as usual. Love how huge you make your stuff sound. The guitar and keyboards together work for the sound no doubt but I agree that you might get slightly better results using cab impulses. Who cares though, listening to some of the hits from the 80's some of it sounds horrid and thin and yet it works and we love it. HUGE power ballad too! loved it.

Damn dude, this tune is friggin awesome. JerEvil's right, "Ridin' Highs" is killer, especially that solo.

Man, again I really am diggin' your music. Amazing the quality that can be produced in someone's home these days lol. There are records from the 80's that don't sound nearly that good but are some of the most loved tunes out there. Great job, and I agree with dude above....you don't need a new singer! Keep it up, you're getting better for sure!

Cheers man! haha yeah we did the whole Mutt Lange 64 track gang vocal idea on that track but ended up getting lazy and doing 12 then using a vocoder haha!

There are 2 guitarists including myself, Connor usually takes the 2nd solo.

I will defo try the cab impulses, could make the world of difference!

You really nailed the Mutt Lange backing vocals trick.. very impressed. Also the layering of guitar melodies besides the chords. Sounds like you panned the rythm guitars what, 75% to each side and then the melodies wider at 100% L or R ?

Cheers dude! The recording process was recorder stereo then pan 100% left, then second take and pan 100% right, creates its own chorusy effect! The melody guitar was recorded dead centre with a spacialiser stereo effect on it which gives width without panning. Then bass and vocals are dead centre. Harmoney vocals are panned 75% 75%, keyboards are 80% and 80 %

It's hard to mix as there are just so many layers so I don't EQ as I go, I try to dial in tones that sound good in the mix naturally, the only EQ is on the vocals and bass to be honest! It's run through tape emulation at the final stage to give it a little kick

 DUDE!! Fan-Fucking-Tastic!! Killer tunes, riffs, solos, vocals, lyrics, arrangements.. You know the sound you want, and have worked your ass off to get it! Much respect here dude :salute: Makes my old ass feel like a chump!  Keep it up!

Man...that is really good. I'm a bitch for the big-hair-power-ballads  and "She's good lookin'" is a good one! Straight up, I would have paid to listen to that back in the day...hell I may pay for it now ;)

I agree the vocals are very good. JMO...I'd love to hear a different vocalist take on your music; just to see what it'd sound like. and i'm not being critical, so please don't take it that way. Someone hit-up Sebastian Bach...he had the chops, range and growl...(HAD   ), or maybe the dude from Honeymoon suite (that is actually what this record reminds me of)

Jokes aside, very good! You're a talented, talented dude! Congrats on your record mang.
