Actually, it has been finished for a week or so. Honestly, the most difficult part of the build was waiting for parts, and trouble shooting. I had a couple really good head scratching moments. None of the problems I experienced, however, were huge mistakes. All it took was for a Metro forum genius to look at my pics and say "Ya forgot a connection here" and whatnot.

Anyone who can solder well can build an amp like this. I should mention that I had never previously built an amp. I have soldered guitar pickups, etc. In a way, the amp is easier since you have more room to work with. I made sure that I gathered all the necessary tools beforehand. I did order spare parts many times throughout the build though. If I screwed up a solder joint, or cut a component lead too short, I ordered another.

How does she sound?? I cranked it to 10 yesterday...Good fuckin' lord does it sound godly!! I have it set up to 1971 specs. Basically 1987x specs and man...Sounds amazing. Just pure balls...A huge wall of crunch if you will. The only thing I did differently was use a different value bright cap so it's not so bright down low.

Pics and clips to come when I can figure out a good sweet spot with the mic.

Congrats! I would like to save some pennies for a kit of some type.

Thanks so much fellas.

Even though it was essentially a "paint by number" amp, I do feel accomplished for having the patience to finish it! I wanted to pull my hair out at moments, but with the help of George and the guys on the forum, everything worked out in the end.

If you have the time, money, and tools, GO FOR IT!!

Hmmmm, not so sure. I'm pretty sure Ralph bought a 100 watt straight from Metro amps, already built. I could be wrong though. Maybe Ralph will chime in eventually.

Awesome accomplishment Joe!!

I have one of the first 100 watt Kits. I started out building it with a friend and it became to much because the instructions were not that great so I sent it out to have it finished!
I had mine put to Ralle's specs and I have since popped a tube and I have not used it in a while!! I really need to get it back up and running!

Thanks Ralph!!

My bad, thought you bought the amp. That's cool though...I was considering bringing it to the amp show to be sent out with George, but I wanted to get to the bottom of it myself.

Turns out it was one iffy solder joint and a wrong connection from V1 to the board. Amazing how the little things can drive you nuts if you don't know where to look.

You should get her up and running!! George's 12 series sounded INSANE at the show, especially when boosted with the Klon.

Accursed gas! The only real amp I'm jonesing for is a plexi clone...and hearing Ralph's clips made Metro's move to the top of the list.

What filtering did you do on your kit? Im thinking about some changes to mine in the near future.

Thanks dudes...

The Plexi tone is definitely on it's own and is timeless. Cranked to 7-10 this amp screams.

-Joe

Dibs when you unload it.

Stock '68 filtering...Two 50 x 50uf cans.

The '71 spec filtering is actually a bit higher, but with the board components changed out, I'm as close as I can get without changing filtering. George said that if I change filtering it will tighten it up a bit.

Hehe, I'm pretty sure I'm holding onto this one.

With this and my '68 Super Reverb, I have my classic tones covered.

Cool. I think I read somewhere on the Metro forums that a few guys went with 32x32uf to do more of the brown sound thing, but I could be completely wrong as Im an amp tech n000bzoRz

I am probably more of a newb. :D

Trying to explain my problems with the build in my retarded terms was interesting.

Last thing on the list for this setup to be complete:

- (4) Scumback M75s which I have on order...They will be going in a Mojo 4x12.

- Ultimate Attenuator

Let me know what you think of the speakers when you get them. I paired my Bogen Vplexi up with Weber Stan spec greenies and I couldn't be happier.
